Position Summary

The Veteran Certified Peer Specialist has lived experience of military service along with mental health and/or co-occurring substance use challenges. They partner with Veterans to facilitate recovery and community integration using personal life experience and recovery knowledge. Responsibilities include helping Veterans articulate goals, learn and practice new skills, monitor progress, model coping techniques, and advocate for effective services. Services are provided individually and in group settings.

Job Duties and Responsibilities
  1. Use personal recovery experiences to model coping techniques and recovery tools, coaching Veterans on self-management and wellness.
  2. Develop, facilitate, and engage Veterans in community-based support activities such as coffee talks and hikes.
  3. Document service provision accurately using electronic health records.
  4. Maintain a valid driver’s license as this is a community-based service.
Physical and Sensory Requirements

Ability to sit for 2 hours per day (up to 1 hour consecutively), stand for 8 hours (up to 2 hours consecutively), walk for 6 hours (up to 10 minutes consecutively), and perform frequent fingering, stooping, bending, reaching, touching, and hearing activities. Visual abilities include general, near, color, and peripheral vision.

Education
  • High school diploma or GED required.
Training and Experience
  • Must be a Veteran of the Armed Forces.
  • Complete Certified Peer Specialist training in Pennsylvania or meet criteria to complete an approved two-week training within the first 2 months of hire and pass the Pennsylvania Certification Board CPS exam within 6 months.
Work Schedule
  • Full-Time, Monday-Friday.
