Job summary

People Incorporated Mental Health Services seeks a Certified Peer Specialist to support clients in outpatient substance use disorder treatment. The role combines one-on-one and group peer support, helping clients build coping skills, access community resources, and pursue recovery goals in a flexible part-time schedule.

Sites rotate among Huss Center for Recovery in Minneapolis, York Mental Health Clinic in St. Paul, and Northside Community Support Program in Minneapolis.

Qualifications

• Certified Peer Specialist I required.
• DHS certification as a Certified Peer Specialist OR MCB certification as a Certified Peer Recovery Specialist.
• Be at least 18 years old and have a primary diagnosis of mental illness.
• Must be a current or former consumer of mental health services.
• Demonstrate leadership and advocacy skills and commitment to recovery.
• Must be free of chemical use problems for at least one year prior to hire.

Responsibilities

• Provide quality program services to individuals served in a professional manner.
• Complete required documentation according to program standards and timelines.
• Provide peer support for those dealing with substance use and/or mental health symptoms.
• Offer guidance, encouragement, education and skill-building around wellness planning, crisis planning, and self-advocacy.

This position provides recovery-oriented support services to individuals receiving outpatient substance use disorder treatment. The Certified Peer Specialist will assist clients in restoring skills and functioning that promote stability, community integration, recovery, and overall well-being. Working alongside the program's Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselor (LADC) and Mental Health Practitioner, this role provides support through both individual and group interventions.
