Job summary

Center for Family Services is hiring a Peer Support Specialist for the 24‑hour Crisis Receiving Stabilization Center in New Jersey. This full-time, overnight role offers a $500 sign-on bonus and pays $24.40 per hour as the base wage.

The center provides professional psychiatric crisis support and aims to empower adults through recovery-focused interventions. The successful candidate will use trauma-informed care, actively listen, and facilitate group activities while guiding clients and families

Qualifications

• Lived experience related to the population served and at least two years of recovery.
• Must hold CPRS / NCPRSS / CRSP or DMHAS-approved credential.
• Valid driver's license with clean driving record in past 3 years.

Responsibilities

• Provide trauma-informed care and supportive companionship to consumers.
• Greet consumers and assist acclimation to the stabilization center.
• Facilitate group activities promoting recovery and well-being.
• Offer information about behavioral health services and how to access them.
• Coordinate transportation for clients as needed.
• Complete paperwork and incident reports timely and accurately.

Salary: $24.40 per hour

PROGRAM SUMMARY:

Center For Family Services is seeking experienced and professional Peer Support Specialist for the Crisis Receiving Stabilization Center (CRSC). This is a 24-hour psychiatric crisis center for adults experiencing a mental health crisis. The Crisis Receiving Stabilization Center provides a nurturing and supportive environment where our consumers can receive therapeutic interventions for up to 24 hours.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Serve as resource to other consumers and support persons (such as friends and family members identified by the consumer) on issues related to the effective management of mental illness in areas such as symptom reduction, relapse prevention, stress management, social skills, depression, anxiety and healthy relationships.
• Use prior personal experiences with mental health services in a positive manner for consumers/families
• Greet consumers upon entry into the stabilization center, assist them in acclimating to the environment.
• Provide supportive companionship to consumers.
• Apply trauma informed care approach to consumer interactions.
• Actively listen to consumers and family members.
• Facilitate supportive group activities for consumers that promote recovery, wellness, coping skills, connection, and stabilization.
• Support the concept/philosophy of wellness and recovery.
• Provide consumers and support persons with information about how to obtain information about behavioral health issues and services available.
• Help consumers and support persons understand the behavioral health systems in New Jersey.
• Complete all assigned paperwork in a neat, accurate and timely manner.
• Complete incident reports according to policy in a timely, accurate manner.
• Communicate with other staff as necessary to promote quality consumer care.
• Participate in required staff trainings and staff meetings as scheduled.
• Participate in Center and Program performance improvement activities.
• Provide (using program vehicle) and/or arrange for transportation services for clients to afford access to services as needed.
• Perform other duties as assigned within the scope of the position and in accordance with program policies, training, and regulatory requirements.
• Follow all company policies and procedures.

Qualifications:

• The Peer Specialist must have lived experience relevant to the population served and at least two years of recovery.
• Must hold certification as a Certified Peer Recovery Specialist (CPRS), National Certified Peer Recovery Support Specialist (NCPRSS), Certified Recovery Support Practitioner (CRSP), or other DMHAS-approved Peer Specialist credential.
• Demonstration of positive decision-making skills personally and professionally
• Must have current Driver's License and excellent driving record with no violations in the past 3 years.
