Position Summary

This Certified Patient Care Assistant will provide routine patient care on the Medical Unit. The unit has 64 beds across two floors and serves a variety of medical diagnoses outside of any specialty areas.

Responsibilities
  1. Assist patients with activities of daily living, including basic hygiene, mobility, and nutritional intake to promote patient health.
  2. Collect patient specimens and data—vital signs, input/output, and other delegated measurements—as per unit and facility policy, and document in the medical record.
  3. Recognize and report abnormal changes in a patient’s health status and response to treatment to a licensed professional, ensuring accurate communication to other caregivers.
  4. Perform procedures and use equipment delegated by a licensed professional, such as blood draws, Foley catheter removal, EKGs, and monitoring, under direct supervision.
  5. Support overall operating efficiency by performing receptionist/clerical duties and assisting in resolving customer problems.
  6. Maintain complete patient records—including admission, transfer, discharge, progress notes, and consent forms—and ensure charts are scanned or filed appropriately.
  7. Manage office, dietary, and medical supplies, complete requisition forms, reconcile orders, and monitor electronic equipment usage.
  8. Assist with patient transfers, including pre‑operative and post‑operative transport to critical care units, and participate in operating room room turnover.
  9. Work under supervision, focusing on customer service in a fast‑paced environment and interacting with staff, patients, families, and physicians.
Minimum Qualifications
  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent working knowledge.
  • Current BLS certification is required.
  • Current Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) in the state of practice required for new hires and transfers.
  • At least one year of medical clerical experience or prior customer service experience, preferred.
  • Excellent organizational, human relations, and communication skills.
  • Working knowledge of medical terminology and computer literacy, including keyboard skills.
  • Minimum passing score of 85% on an ECG or EEG test with accurate identification of lethal cardiac dysrhythmias or epileptiform activity, or completion of an approved electrocardiogram or electroencephalographic interpretation course.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Licensed Nursing Assistant (LNA) licensure is preferred.
  • Recent healthcare experience preferred.
  • Successful completion of an approved unit secretary program preferred.
  • Additional related education and/or experience preferred.
