Job summary

Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary is seeking a Certified Ophthalmic Surgical Assistant to join the perioperative team. The role supports ophthalmic procedures, provides direct patient care, and performs ophthalmic testing as part of a multidisciplinary team.

The position requires JCAHPO-certified OSA access, 2–3 years in ophthalmology settings, and strong infection control and communication skills. Onsite in Boston with day shifts and 40 hours per week.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• OSA certification through JCAHPO required.
• 2-3 years of experience in ophthalmology procedural area.
• Knowledge of medical terminology and ocular anatomy.
• Infection prevention and instrument sterilization knowledge.
• Excellent communication and ability to work in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

• Perform pre-operative testing and prepare patients for surgery.
• Provide pre- and post-operative education to patients.
• Identify and administer ophthalmic medications and eye drops.
• Set up operating room, calibrate equipment, and prepare sterile field.
• Assist surgeon by providing instruments and supplies.
• Sterilize instruments per infection control standards.
• Promote patient safety and privacy while coordinating with the care team.
• Manage surgical charts and triage patient calls as directed.
• Cross-cover across ophthalmology services and locations as needed.
• Adhere to hospital policies and regulatory requirements.
