Mercyhealth Wisconsin and Illinois seeks an Ophthalmic Assistant to join our eye care team. You will care for patients, perform assessments, and assist physicians during examinations and testing across ophthalmic procedures.

The role requires a high school diploma, preferably paraprofessional training in ophthalmology or optometry, and JCAHPO certification. We value strong interpersonal skills, clear communication, and a commitment to education and patient care.

Qualifications

• High School diploma is required.
• Paraprofessional education in ophthalmology or optometry preferred.
• Certified by JCAHPO as an assistant is required or preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provide patient care and assist physicians during treatment and examinations.
• Rooms and collects patient assessment data; maintain timely flow of patients.
• Administer medications and perform ophthalmic procedures per established criteria.
• Document patient care and related information; respond to calls and triage patients by phone.
• Perform ophthalmic tests (vision, refractometry, OCT, topography, etc.) and assist in minor procedures.
