Job summary

Mercy Hospital is seeking an Occupational Therapy Assistant to support patient care under the supervision of a licensed OT. The role involves assisting with assessments, developing and implementing individualized treatment programs, and documenting patient progress in accordance with Mercy policies and standards.

You will administer modalities and exercise regimens, maintain patient records, and contribute to department education while addressing a wide age range from neonatal to geriatric.

Qualifications

  • Graduate of an accredited Occupational Therapy Assistant program.
  • Current license as a Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant or eligibility for licensure in the state of practice.
  • One year of experience preferred; new graduates will also be considered.
  • BLS certification required and must be current before providing care independently.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with initial patient assessment under supervision.
  • Document the course of patient care, including progress notes and ongoing need for treatment.
  • Administer appropriate modalities, exercise regimens, or treatment procedures per policies.
  • Maintain progress notes and departmental records on each patient and billing documentation.
  • Participate in promoting education within the department.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of age-specific needs across neonatal to geriatric patients.
  • Perform miscellaneous duties as directed by the Inpatient Physical Medicine Supervisor.

Overview

Under the general supervision of a licensed Occupational Therapist and according to standards of treatment, assists with objective assessments as well as comprehensive individualized treatment programs for patients of all age ranges, according to departmental policies and procedures. Performs duties and responsibilities in a manner consistent with our mission, values, and Mercy Service Standards.

  • Assist with initial assessment on each patient upon receiving direction from O.T.R./L. and according to departmental policies and procedures.
  • Document the course of patient care, including progress notes and the continuing need for treatment according to departmental policy.
  • Administer appropriate modalities, exercise regimens, or treatment procedures according to departmental policies, procedures, and standards of care.
  • Maintain progress notes and departmental records on each patient according to departmental policies regarding documentation and charges.
  • Participate in promoting education within the department.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of the special needs and behaviors of specific age groups, including neonatal, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients.
  • Perform miscellaneous job duties as directed by the Inpatient Physical Medicine Supervisor.
Qualifications

Education: Must be a graduate of an accredited Occupational Therapy Assistant program.

Licensure: Current license as a Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant or eligibility for licensure in the state of practice.

Experience: One year of experience preferred; new graduates will also be considered.

Certifications: BLS certification required. Required certifications must be current before being assigned to care for patients independently.
