Responsibilities

A Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) plays a vital role in the rehabilitation and care of patients with diverse physical, mental, or emotional conditions. The main goal of a COTA is to help individuals develop, recover, improve, and maintain skills necessary for daily living and working. Key responsibilities include:

  • Patient Care Execution: Under the supervision of an occupational therapist, implement therapeutic plans, teach patients to use adaptive equipment, guide exercises, and facilitate activities essential for recovery.
  • Activity and Program Planning: Assist in planning and selecting therapeutic activities tailored to each patient's needs and interests, aligning with the goals set by the occupational therapist.
  • Progress Monitoring: Observe, document, and report patient progress, adjusting interventions as needed for continuous improvement.
  • Patient and Family Education: Educate patients and families about therapy processes, adaptive equipment, and home modifications to support ongoing recovery and independence.
