Your Mission (Should You Choose to Accept)
  • Deliver engaging, play-based therapy sessions under the supervision of a licensed Occupational Therapist.
  • Support treatment goals and implement individualized therapy plans that help children succeed at home, school, and in the community.
  • Track progress, document sessions, and share updates with the therapy team and caregivers.

Requirements

Qualifications & Requirements
  • Education: Associate’s degree from an accredited Occupational Therapy Assistant program
  • Certification: Current NBCOT certification as a Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA)
  • Licensure: Active DC and Virginia COTA license (or eligibility to obtain required)
  • Experience:
    • At least 1 year of pediatric experience preferred, but motivated new graduates are welcome to apply!
    • Experience supporting children with developmental delays, sensory processing differences, fine/visual motor, and self-regulation challenges preferred
  • Knowledge & Skills:
    • Familiarity with evidence-based pediatric practices and a willingness to learn under the supervision of an Occupational Therapist
    • Strong critical thinking, communication, organization, and teamwork abilities
    • Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team while following established treatment plans
    • Proficient with technology, including Microsoft Office, EMR systems, and iPads
  • Certifications & Clearances:
    • CPR and First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain)
    • Negative TB test and background check

Role of the Pediatric Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant at Skills on the Hill

As a member of our superhero team, the COTA works under the supervision of a licensed Occupational Therapist to help children reach their highest potential through purposeful play and meaningful activities.

Primary Responsibilities:
  • Implement individualized treatment plans developed by the supervising Occupational Therapist
  • Engage children in play-based activities to support fine motor, visual motor, sensory processing, self-help, and social-emotional development
  • Observe and document children’s progress and communicate updates to the supervising OT and caregivers
  • Assist in administering selected assessments and gathering data to inform treatment planning
  • Provide parent, caregiver, and teacher education under the guidance of the OT
  • Collaborate with the multidisciplinary team to ensure cohesive, holistic care
  • Maintain organized and timely documentation in compliance with company standards and state regulations

Physical Requirements
  • Frequent standing, walking, bending, kneeling, and reaching during treatment sessions
  • Ability to lift, position, or support children as needed for therapeutic activities
  • Comfortable engaging in active, play-based therapy that may include floor work or use of sensory-motor equipment
