Responsibilities

Essential Duties and Responsibilities of the COTA:

  • Assist in the implementation of individualized treatment plans for patients under the direction of a licensed occupational therapist
  • Conduct therapeutic activities, exercises, and treatments to improve patients' functional abilities.
  • Monitor and document patients' progress, making adjustments to treatment plans as necessary in consultation with the occupational therapist.
  • Educate patients and their families on home exercise programs, adaptive equipment, and techniques to enhance daily living skills.
  • Collaborate with the interdisciplinary team, including nurses, physical therapists, speech therapists, and physicians, to coordinate patient care.
  • Regularly participate in team meetings to discuss patient progress and adjust treatment plans as needed.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation of patient treatments, progress notes, and billing information in accordance with facility policies and regulatory requirements.
  • Assist occupational therapists with the assessment of patients’ functional abilities and limitations.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives to enhance the effectiveness of occupational therapy services.
  • All other duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • Graduate of an occupational therapy assistant curriculum accredited by either the American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA) or the Accreditation Council for Occupational Therapy Education (ACOTE).
  • Hold a valid State Certified Occupational Therapy License.
