Providence Hall is seeking a highly skilled and enthusiastic Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) to join our team and service our 3 campuses (Elementary, Junior High and High School) alongside our Occupational Therapist.
Schedule:
- 9am-2pm Tuesday-Thursday on scheduled school days
- Department, building, and LEA professional development, trainings and meetings
Responsibilities:
- Provide expertise in improving, developing, or restoring functions impaired or lost, particularly related to seating/positioning modifications, handwriting, motor skills, organizing self and materials, promoting independence in self-feeding, and safety for students.
- Supervise and interact with assigned students.
- Assist in the assessment of students' level of functioning and need for therapy.
- Assist in the development of an Individual Education Program (IEP) for students in occupational therapy and participate in IEP meetings with parents at the direction of the Occupational Therapist.
- Promote motor development and student participation in everyday routines and activities that are part of the educational program.
- Under the supervision of an Occupational Therapist, perform therapeutic interventions, including compensation, remediation and prevention strategies and adaptations, focusing on functional mobility and safe, efficient access and participation in activities and routines in natural learning environments.
- Schedule interventions using a variety of service delivery models, including classroom intervention, consultation/collaboration and pull-out as appropriate to meet student needs in the least restrictive environment.
- Apply a systematic workload model to facilitate the organization of the occupational therapy program within the school.
- Provide direct support services to students, classrooms, and small groups that are comprehensive and data-driven.
- Address the needs of the school, student, families, and community by collaborating with the Related Services Team and other staff to design a holistic approach to address barriers or problems with the educational process.
- Under the supervision of the Occupational Therapist, administer tests according to appropriate procedures.
- Provide input that assists the Occupational Therapist with completing written reports that are in compliance with Federal, State, and Local Agencies.
- Develop and provide professional development workshops as requested by the Occupational Therapist and/or Special Education Director.
- Participate in family educational opportunities.
- Maintain accurate case records and documentation.
- Maintain current knowledge of Federal, State, and Local laws and regulations and abide by said laws and regulations with emphasis on persons with disabilities, child welfare, mental health, confidentiality, and student and parent rights.
- Participate in other duties as assigned by the Occupational Therapist and/or Special Education Director.
- Collaborate with colleagues to support the school in general.
- Maintain effective communication channels to ensure a collaborative school community.
- Actively participate in assigned meetings, professional developments, and other trainings.
- Other responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Current Utah State Occupational Therapist Assistant license
- Minimum of 2 years experience in pediatric or school practice, preferred
- Good organizational skills with attention to detail and ability to multitask easily
- Positive interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to maintain calm in high-stress situations
- Willing to effectively problem-solve as needed
- Basic knowledge of Google Workspace and its collaboration tools
- Capacity to perform all the responsibilities listed in this posting
- Must pass a comprehensive background check, including criminal history, and professional references as a condition of employment
- Lift up to 25 pounds, traverse school facilities, and lead students to safety in the event of an emergency
