Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant, COTA, Position Summary :

  • Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant, COTA will establish and perform treatment programs for assigned residents.
  • Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant, COTA will upgrade goods as appropriate and physician order recommendations.
  • Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant, COTA will enter billing information in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant, COTA will report resident progress in meetings, i.e. Medicare A Meetings. Consult with other members of rehabilitation team to coordinate occupational therapy with other therapeutic activities.
  • Provide residents with equipment as appropriate & inform Social Services of equipment needs at discharge. Requisitions supplies and equipment.
  • Design and construct special equipment for individuals and suggest adaptation of individual’s living environment.
  • Lay out materials for individual’s use and return equipment to appropriate place.
  • Conduct training programs for other workers / families in occupational therapy techniques and objectives for resident care.
  • Chart notes in an informative and descriptive manner that reflects the therapy provided to the residents as well as the resident’s response to the therapy.
  • Perform routine documentation as required and in accordance with our established charting and documentation policies and procedures. Sign and date all entries made in resident’s medical record.
  • Follow all facility policies and procedures.
  • Perform other related duties as required and assigned.

Requirements :

  • The Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant is trained and licensed, meeting the qualifications set forth by the NYS Board of Education and the NYS Rules and Regulation requirements.
  • Graduate of an approved Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant Program.
  • Training certification by the AOTCB and current licensure in good standing with the NYS Board of Education.
  • One (1) year experience in the skilled nursing facility setting, preferred.
  • Experience with MDS, PRI and Comprehensive Care Planning. Entry-level knowledge and professional competency of the practice of occupational therapy as set forth by the NYS Board of Education and the AOTA.
  • Candidate will have the physical ability to perform job related duties, which may require lifting, bending, stooping, stretching, pulling and pushing up to 50lbs or more as needed.
  • Work well under pressure & willing to work harmoniously with all staff
  • Sincere desire to work with the elderly, chronically ill, and handicapped
  • Must be able to communicate well verbally with residents, families and staff
  • Treat residents and fellow staff with respect, dignity, and compassion
  • Covid-19 vaccinations are encouraged but NOT MANDATED ; we continue to offer COVID-19 vaccination based on eligibility guidance from CDC
