The Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant assists in the delivery of occupational therapy services under supervision in accordance with state, federal, and professional regulations.

Requirements:

  • Graduation from an accredited program with an Associate's degree in occupational therapy
  • State licensure with the Louisiana Board of Medical Examiners
  • Completed clinicals during the COTA program
  • Skills and competency in swimming as appropriate for aquatic therapy treatment
  • Previous experience with Lymphedema and/or Oncology population highly preferred; must be willing to train in all areas

Responsibilities:

  • Assist the therapist in providing quality service according to regulations. Administer high-quality physical therapy care as directed by a licensed Occupational Therapist.
  • Assist with patient testing, evaluation, and re-assessment. Demonstrate competency in measuring joint motion, muscle strength, tissue integrity, postural deviations, and malalignment.
  • Instruct and progress patients on prescribed exercise programs, recognizing responses and adapting treatment plans with the therapist's approval.
  • Prepare all documentation clearly, accurately, and timely, complying with regulations.
  • Apply, utilize, and monitor modalities such as electrical stimulation, ultrasound, TENS, fluid therapy, biofeedback, hot/cold packs, splinting, and lymphatic drainage under supervision.
  • Perform manual techniques like myofascial release, massage, and tissue stretching to promote healing and range of motion.
  • Participate in staff instruction and education as directed.
  • Maintain cleanliness of toys, laundry, and equipment following infection control policies.
  • Train and delegate duties to volunteers as needed.
  • Assist with coverage in the medical exercise program and transition patients to maintenance programs.
  • Implement treatment protocols for specific practice areas and seek new program development to enhance services.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by Woman’s Hospital.

Schedule:

Monday – Friday; schedule may vary

Pay Range:

$22.91 – $33.22 per hour, based on experience
