• Graduate of an approved Occupational Therapy Assistant program.
• Current Mississippi license or eligibility to practice.
• Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills.
• Adequate computer skills to complete documentation.

Responsibilities

• Implement individualized treatment plans under supervision of the OT.
• Provide skilled OT interventions to improve ADLs and independence.
• Assist residents with self-care, coordination, mobility, and functional activities.
• Monitor residents' responses and report progress to the OT.
• Document treatments and progress per standards.
• Collaborate with residents, families, nursing staff, and the care team.
• Follow plans of care and report changes in status.

About the Role

The Occupational Therapy Assistant plays an important role in helping residents maintain or regain the skills needed for everyday living. Under the supervision of an occupational therapist, the COTA provides skilled interventions to support residents' functional abilities, safety, and independence.

Responsibilities include:

Implementing individualized treatment plans established by the supervising Occupational Therapist

Providing skilled occupational therapy interventions to improve residents' ability to perform activities of daily living and other functional tasks

Assisting residents with self-care, coordination, mobility, and functional activities to promote independence

Monitoring residents' responses to treatment and communicating progress or concerns to the supervising Occupational Therapist

Documenting treatments and resident progress in accordance with professional and regulatory standards

Collaborating with residents, families, nursing staff, and the interdisciplinary care team

Following established plans of care and reporting changes in residents' functional status

Promoting resident safety, functional independence, and overall quality of life

Requirements

License/Credentials

Current license or eligible for license under statutes in the state of Mississippi. Graduate of an approved Occupational Therapy Assistant program.

Preferred Qualifications

Prefer minimum of one (1) year rehabilitation experience in a setting serving the same age/type of patient population served by this facility. Prefer active membership in the state and national American Occupational Therapy Association.

Minimum Qualifications

Graduate of an approved Occupational Therapy Assistant program. Current license/certification in the state of Mississippi. Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills. Adequate computer skills in order to complete required job duties and computerized documentation. Ability to understand and follow the directions of the Occupational Therapist and the policies and procedures of Mississippi Methodist Senior Services.

Physical Requirements

Ability to walk, bend, drive, stand, sit and reach constantly during an eight (8) hour day/shift. Ability to speak and hear to understand and give directions. Visual and auditory acuity sufficient to assess and monitor patient/resident needs, maintain accurate records, understand directions and recognize people. Fine and gross motor skills. Ability to push wheeled equipment throughout the facility and in the community. Work endurance ability to work eight (8) hour days/shifts. Ability to participate in sustained activity for up to three and one-half (3.5) hours at a time. Reading and comprehension skills for analyzing reports, charts and correspondence. Possesses highly developed communication and problem-solving skills.

Additional Information

Working conditions: Typical therapy clinic environment. Requires ability to work occasional evenings and/or weekends. Strong organizational skills in order to effectively maintain multiple projects simultaneously. Requires creativity as well as the ability to work independently. Ability to be discreet and maintain confidential information.
