Responsibilities

A Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) plays a vital role in the rehabilitation and care of patients with various physical, mental, or emotional conditions. The primary goal is to help individuals develop, recover, improve, and maintain skills necessary for daily living and working. Key responsibilities include:

• Patient Care Execution: Under the supervision of an occupational therapist, implement therapeutic plans, teach patients to use adaptive equipment, guide exercises, and facilitate activities crucial to recovery.
• Activity and Program Planning: Assist in planning and selecting therapeutic activities tailored to each patient's needs and interests, aligning with therapeutic goals.
• Progress Monitoring: Observe, document, and report patient progress, adjusting interventions as needed to ensure continuous improvement.
• Patient and Family Education: Educate patients and families on therapy processes, adaptive equipment, and home modifications to support long-term recovery and independence.

Qualifications

• Degree from an accredited Occupational Therapy Assistant program
• Current license/certification in the state of practice
