What We're Looking For:
1. Primarily responsible for occupational therapy care rendered by the COTA for all residents for whom he or she is the therapist of record. Responsible for service and operational excellence of all assigned activities to ensure the delivery of quality services and/or outcomes required to meet or exceed the expectations of those utilizing or impacted by the rehab dept. In doing so: Delegates appropriate portions of the treatment plan and program to the COTA consistent with the COTA’s education, training and experience; Accessible by telecommunication to the COTA at all times while the COTA is treating residents; Supervises and visits COTA as required and upon request. Coordinates discharge plan and decisions with the COTA.
2. Displays thorough knowledge of the principles, methods, materials, and equipment used in the practice of their discipline; Thorough knowledge of all payer source documentation and payment requirements. Demonstrates knowledge and appropriate application of precautions and contraindications to occupational therapy treatment procedures and modalities.
3. Maintains proper documentation. This includes but is not limited to: performing initial patient examination, evaluation, interpretation of referrals; creating initial plan of care for each resident and revises as appropriate; providing on-site
assessment and re-evaluation of each resident's treatment according to the State or Federal required interval, whichever is more stringent, and adjusts the treatment plan as appropriate. Assures that all rehab billing and labor entries are complete, accurate and timely.
4. Communicates effectively. This includes but is not limited to effective communication with interdisciplinary communication regarding resident treatments and discharge planning, communication with facility, regional and corporate department, relates professionally, positively, and cooperatively with patients, patients’ family members, and other employees at all levels.
5. Participates in continuous survey readiness department and facility activities.
6. Demonstrate professional attitude and appearance, including adherence to any applicable dress codes. Maintains regular attendance as well as a clean, safe and professional department.
7. Participates in census building and marketing activities.
8. Participates in clinical program development and implementation.
9. Participates in quality and process improvement activities in the department as outlined by the manager/director.
10. Maintains and applies current skills and knowledge through continuing education including but not limited to maintaining knowledge of Medicare Policies and Regulations, LCDs, and NCDs.
11. Carries out responsibilities of position in compliance with federal, state, and local laws, regulations, and company philosophy, policies and procedures.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Directly supervises COTA staff. Indirectly supervises other therapy and facility staff. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the company and facility policies, practices, procedures, and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems. Indirect supervisor of nurse, program, activity and other assistants as their job functions relate to resident care. Must consistently use discretion and independent judgment.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
Graduate of an accredited education course in occupational therapy. Meets state and federal requirements. Long term care and EMR experience strongly preferred.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:
Occupational Therapist Licensure, Driver’s license per position requirements.
