Qualifications

  • Current license in the State of Florida as a Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant.
  • Continuing education as required by State Practice Act.

Department: LMH Inpatient Rehab Services - OT

Status: Pool/Per-Diem/PRN

Schedule: First Shift | One weekend shift per month on Saturday or Sunday

Title: Occupational Therapist Assistant, Certified | Certified Occupational Therapist Assistant | COTA

Orlando Health Lake Mary Hospital is a new 124-bed acute-care hospital – with room to grow to 240 beds, located in Seminole County, Florida. The facility offers a full complement of services, including inpatient & outpatient rehabilitation services, cardiovascular care, including 3 cath labs, emergency care, general surgery, orthopedics, and obstetrics, childbirth, postpartum care, and a future NICU.

ABOUT OUR IP & OP REHAB DEPARTMENT:

  • We offer rehabilitation services serving a full spectrum of short-term and long-term rehabilitation needs – from hip fracture, joint replacement and sports medicine programs to stroke, traumatic brain injury cardiac surgery and oncology/lymphedema rehabilitation.
  • Our programs encompass both inpatient and outpatient care
  • The inpatient Acute Care Therapy offers unit-based specialized therapists for Oncology/Lymphedema, Neurological Conditions, Stroke, Orthopedics, Limb Loss, Multiple Traumas, and more!
  • Outpatient services are treated at our outpatient clinic located in Longwood, FL

Responsibilities

Position Summary:

The Occupational Therapy Assistant will follow a plan of treatment for patient care established by a Licensed Occupational Therapist.

Essential Functions
• Demonstrates ability to appropriately treat patients according to professional standards of practice.
• Implements treatment and modifies accordingly.
• Provides patient/family/caregiver training as appropriate.
• Demonstrates knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served on the assigned caseload.
• Demonstrates the ability to assess data reflective of the patient’s status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient’s requirements relative to their age specific needs, and to provide the care needed as delineated in the departmental policies and procedures.
• Demonstrates competency in the use, care, and maintenance of profession specific equipment, observing safety precautions and providing verbal explanations of the equipment and its purpose.
• Communicates with the team on the patient’s progress and needs verbally, and by preparing written documentation as required by the department, and the care team. Identifies the need to update the treatment plan, and communicates input to the therapist.
• Communicates input for discharge planning to the therapist.
• Ensures accurate billing.
• Adheres to State Practice Act and Standards of Practice.
• Maintains reasonably regular, punctual attendance consistent with Orlando Health policies, the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards.
• Maintains compliance with all Orlando Health policies and procedures.
