Summary

The Occupational Therapy Assistant in Home Health is responsible for providing occupational therapy to patients in their homes to restore them to their fullest physical ability. The Occupational Therapy Assistant performs duties in accordance with policies, procedures, and the established plan of care.

Responsibilities

• Under the supervision of an Occupational Therapist, follow all state-specific laws governing occupational therapy in home care, adhere to the treatment plan set by the supervising Occupational Therapist, and perform only procedures for which qualified and trained. Make recommendations for changes in the plan of care as needed.
• Instruct and assist patients in evidence-based treatments within the scope of practice and according to state laws.
• Observe, record, and report to the supervising OT, nurse, and/or physician the patient's response to treatment and any changes in condition. Coordinate care with other healthcare team members as appropriate.
• Educate patients, families, caregivers, and healthcare team members in therapy areas within the occupational therapy assistant's scope.
• Visit patients across the service area and nearby agencies as needed.
• Complete and submit progress notes for each visit in accordance with agency policy.
• Adhere to LHC Therapy Standards of Practice in providing services.
• Participate in staff meetings and committees as requested.
• Maintain schedule flexibility, including participation in weekend rotations and holiday availability, to meet patient needs.
• Perform all other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience

• Current OTA licensure in the state
• Current CPR certification
• Valid driver's license, vehicle insurance, and access to reliable transportation
