Job summary

FirstHealth of the Carolinas seeks a Certified Occupational Therapist Assistant (Acute Care) to stabilize patients, assist mobilization, and implement interventions per the plan of care established by the OT. You will collaborate with OTs and other clinicians to support patients toward independence in daily activities.

Position Summary

The Certified Occupational Therapist Assistant (Acute Care) specializes in helping to stabilize patients, assist with mobilization, implement therapeutic interventions, and carry out the plan of care established by the Occupational Therapist.

The COTA will collaborate with OTs and other healthcare professionals and carry out a course of action with the end goal of helping patients with treatment to support them as they work towards improving their ability to handle everyday activities related to their daily life. The successful candidate will outline steps for care, such as continued therapy, home exercises and adaptive ways to perform daily activities.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities include and are not limited to:

  • Communicating with Occupational Therapists regarding plan of care progression
  • Implementation of interventions and education in line with POC and within the COTA scope of practice
  • Making recommendations for adaptive equipment or durable medical equipment to help patients reach their highest level of safe independence in activities of daily living
  • Working with interdisciplinary team to meet the needs of the patients while supporting the hospital's mission and values
  • Documenting and billing appropriately
Qualifications
  • Minimum of Associate's Degree from an accredited Occupational Therapist Assistant program
  • Excellent communication skills both verbally and written to ensure clear patient/caregiver collaboration to facilitate successful patient outcomes. Having empathy and compassion is essential as well.
  • Ability to thrive under pressure in a fast‑paced environment with resilience and strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to assess risk and make decisions rapidly.
  • Problem solving is essential as no two treatment plans are the same. Using problem solving skills the successful candidate will craft solutions specific to the nuances of the patients they serve.
  • NC OTA License Required.
