General Description

The Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) is responsible for providing quality patient care under the supervision of a Registered Nurse. The CNA assists patients with Activities of Daily Living and supports nurses with routine treatments and procedures, ensuring patient privacy, dignity, and well-being in a safe environment. The CNA responds to patient requests and reports relevant information to the RN.

Essential Functions
  • Assist with patient admissions, including weighing, dressing, and orientation.
  • Prepare patients for procedures as directed by the RN.
  • Perform routine patient care and basic nursing procedures, such as bathing, vital signs, routine checks, assisting with Activities of Daily Living, and Accu-checks.
  • Document vital signs, treatments, and procedures accurately and promptly.
  • Assist with patient transfers, ambulation, and discharge procedures.
  • Maintain equipment, change linens, and stock work areas.
  • Respond to phone calls and nurse call system alerts.
  • Report patient issues and changes in condition, including abnormal vital signs, to the RN promptly.
  • Participate in department meetings.
  • Train, educate, supervise, and provide feedback to students from outside entities per established agreements.
Education & Training Requirements
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • New Mexico CNA certification
  • American Heart Association Basic Life Support certification
  • PEARS certification within 6 months of hire
