General Description

The Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) is responsible for providing quality patient care under the supervision of a Registered Nurse. S/he assists patients with Activities of Daily Living and supports nurses with routine treatments and procedures, ensuring patient privacy, dignity, and well-being in a safe environment. S/he responds to patient requests and reports pertinent information to the RN.

Essential Functions

1. Assist with patient admissions, including weighing, dressing, and orientation.
2. Prepare patients for various procedures as directed by the RN.
3. Assist with routine patient care and basic nursing procedures, including bathing, vital signs, routine checks, and assisting with Activities of Daily Living.
4. Complete documentation of vital signs, treatments, and procedures accurately and promptly.
5. Assist with patient transfers, ambulation, and discharge procedures.
6. Maintain cleanliness and organization of equipment and work areas, including changing linens and stocking supplies.
7. Respond to phone calls and nurse call system alerts.
8. Communicate patient issues and changes in condition to the nurse promptly.
9. Attend departmental meetings.
10. Train, educate, supervise, and provide feedback to students from external entities as per established agreements.

Education & Training Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED
• New Mexico CNA certification
• American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS)
• American Heart Association PEARS within 6 months of hire
