Description

The Virginian by Cogir is actively recruiting for several CNA/RMA team members to join our Assisted Living and Memory Care neighborhoods. These roles continuously support our residents in several activities of daily living and we are looking for strong, compassionate, and hospitality focused individuals.

GENERAL SUMMARY

The RMA will assist all Memory Care Residents with those activities of daily living that they are unable to perform without help, fostering at all times residents’ independence and freedom of choice.

PRINCIPLE DUTIES:

Essential job Duties:

  • Maintain privacy and confidentiality of resident information at all times.
  • Promote a healthy community culture for all residents and employees. This is a whole-person approach to health and wellness which includes eight dimensions of wellness: Emotional,
  • Environmental, Health Services, Intellectual, Physical, Social, Spiritual and Vocational. Through these efforts we can ensure and exceed residents' wellness needs relating to their mind, body and soul, which may also have a positive effect on the employees, as a result.
  • Complete and document shift assignments as assigned, if unable to complete, report to nursing supervisor.
  • Report to nurse on duty, AL Director, MC Director, Wellness Navigator, and Director of Wellness all unusual behavior of resident (changing of status).
  • Provide activities as planned and/or directed.
  • Initiate resident engagement when residents refuse planned activity. Show willingness to be flexible with activity schedule.
  • Administer and document medication administration, treatments, accu-checks, insulin injections, and vital signs as ordered.
  • Provides assistance with dressing and undressing. Clothing should be clean and appropriate for the season.
  • Provides assistance with personal hygiene such as bathing, shaving, dental, nail care, hair care and foot care.
  • Willingness to help serve meals to Residents in the dining rooms and individual rooms as needed or directed. Ensure Residents who are waiting have beverages, help with clothing protectors if needed, help set up trays, position food/plates, etc. Chat with Residents and support a family like dining experience. Work collaboratively with all Food & Beverage staff.
  • Demonstrate an awareness of the Life Enrichment (Activities) Calendar of scheduled activities/events, encourage attendance/participation of your residents for social wellbeing.
  • Responsible for transportation of residents to and from activities is expected and assigned by all Clinical and Community Leadership.
  • Responsible for your participation/assistance in supporting resident-centered activities with-in your assigned unit/area.
  • Demonstrates an appreciation of the values of the residents and an understanding of the aging process to include the need for activities and social participation.
  • Provides assistance with mobility devices, such as canes, walkers and wheel chairs.
  • Provides assistance with care of eyeglasses, and hearing aides.
  • Gives additional assistance with escorting residents and coordinates internal transportation.
  • Assist with mail delivery to residents.
  • Provides assistance or acts as Medication distributor.
  • Observes and reports changes in residents’ physical condition and cognitive/emotional status to charge nurse and/or AL Director, MC Director, Wellness Navigator, and Director of Wellness as needed.
  • Conducts room checks and makes residents round.
  • Monitors for environmental safety hazards
  • Records and report incidents, errors, and accidents.
  • Records residents and residents-related events.
  • Monitors and assist with dining room services
  • Assists in a variety of tasks related to dining: escort, obtain food preferences, serve food, etc.
  • Refill med cart after use
  • Order refill on meds from pharmacy when low (10 or less) and if not sent within 24 hours call pharmacy again.
  • Be sure to place sticker in charge book when taking items from supply.
  • Responds to and acts appropriately in emergency or disaster situation.
  • Plans and completes duties with minimal direction from charge nurse
  • Works collaboratively with peers and other team members.
  • Uses tactful, diplomatic communication techniques in potentially sensitive or emotionally charged situations.
  • Follows up with appropriate staff, residents or other individuals regarding reported complaints, problems and concerns.
  • Acts as ambassador and public relations representative to guests and other off-campus visitors.
  • Maintains all certificates required for employment.
  • Orders and monitors appropriate use of residents’ care, office and other needed supplies.
  • Copies special paperwork.
  • Records data and necessary information on residents’ electric chart and 24-hour communication book
  • Prepares and maintains resident’s census records.
  • Attends and participates in staff meeting.
  • Participates in in-services or assigned projects. Maintains 100% compliance with data-based training program.
  • Assists in training new staff members.
  • Become familiar with chemicals used throughout the day in this department and follow the safety standards set forth by OSHA and the manufacturer.
  • Is aware of location and information provided by MSDS (Material Safety Data Sheets.)
  • Must maintain an updated CNA/RMA license in the HR office and AL office
  • And any other assigned duties or assignments by the unit coordinator, charge nurse and/or AL Director, or Memory Care Director

Qualifications:

  • Must be currently certified by the Commonwealth of Virginia as a Certified Nursing Assistant or Registered Medication Aide
  • Must be currently licensed in medication authorization. Must be able to think, act and intervene independently in both routine and emergency situations. Must be self-motivated and function as an in-charge person.
  • Must be able to work with frequent interruptions.
  • Must be able to relate to residents and staff in a courteous and diplomatic manner under all circumstances.
  • Must be able to work flexible hours and participate in holiday activities
  • Must be able to work flexible hours in the event of a winter emergency
  • Willing to work beyond normal working hours, on weekends and in other positions temporarily, when necessary.
  • Will attend and participate in continuing educational programs designed to keep employee abreast of changes in their particular profession.
  • Must be able to move intermittently throughout the work day.
  • Must be able to cope with the mental and emotional stress of the position.
  • Must possess sight/hearing, or use prosthetics that will enable these senses to function adequately so that the requirements of this position are fully met, to include use of departmental equipment and/or supplies.
  • Must function independently, have flexibility, personal integrity, and the ability to work effectively with the residents, personnel and support agencies.
  • Able to relate to and work with ill, disable, elderly emotionally upset, and at times hostile people in a patient, tactful, and cheerful manner.
  • Able to read, write and speak English in an understandable manner.
  • Possess the ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action.
  • Must possess the ability to deal tactfully with personnel, residents, family members, visitors, government agencies/personnel and the general public.
  • Must be able to follow oral and written instructions
  • Other duties assigned by Charge nurse or Director of Assisted Living or Director of Memory Care.

Full-Time, Evening and Overnight Shifts available

Part-Time, Morning and Day Shifts available

Requirements

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORKING CONDITIONS:

Frequent standing, stooping, bending, stretching, squatting; must be able to stand/walk for up to 70% of the work day; must be able to lift, transfer, turn and position residents weighing up to 125 lbs. unassisted, or with the assistance of one for a resident weighing over 125 lbs. May be subjected to offensive odors and combative behavior. Must be able to lift and carry up to 20 lbs. frequently and 50 lbs. occasionally. May be exposed to communicable diseases including the HIV and HBV viruses. Must be able to work paying close attention to detail with frequent interruptions.
