Job Description
A Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) is responsible for providing routine nursing care in accordance with established policies and procedures, directed by the Charge Nurse, RN Supervisor, Director of Nurses, or Administrator, to ensure the highest quality resident care at all times.
Qualifications
- Currently enrolled in a nursing assistant program or licensed as a certified nursing assistant.
- At least 6 months of experience as a CNA or clinical experience during certification training.
- Sincere desire to serve the ill, aged, and infirm.
- Ability to read, write, and speak English.
- Tactful communication with personnel, residents, families, visitors, and the public.
- Willingness to work harmoniously with others.
- Patience, tact, cheerful disposition, enthusiasm, and ability to handle residents at their current maturity level.
- Good health and emotional stability.
- Ability to work with ill, disabled, elderly, emotionally upset, and sometimes hostile individuals.
Responsibilities
- Perform duties according to facility policies, procedures, and safety regulations.
- Make rounds at the start of each shift and every two hours to administer care.
- Verify resident identity before care or serving food; report missing ID bands.
- Make beds, clean bedside and overbed tables.
- Serve water, ensure pitchers are clean and within reach.
- Assist residents with dressing and preparing for meals, feeding residents as needed.
- Ensure food accessibility and provide self-help devices.
- Transport residents to therapy, activities, or appointments.
- Maintain cleanliness and dryness for incontinent residents; change linens and clothing as needed.
- Follow safety protocols regarding smoking, call systems, and hazardous conditions.
- Report complaints, abuse, medication issues, injuries, and equipment problems immediately.
- Participate in training and meetings as directed.
- Additional duties as assigned by supervisors.
Clinical Duties
- Practice hand hygiene before and after resident care.
- Position residents comfortably, assist with mouth care, and record intake and output.
- Assist with hygiene, grooming, and toileting, including bathing, hair care, nail trimming, and shaving.
- Observe and report skin issues, reposition residents regularly, and apply supportive devices and ointments as instructed.
- Follow infection control procedures and document all care provided.
Consumer Service
- Maintain professional appearance and behavior.
- Adhere to standards for resolving resident concerns.
- Protect resident rights at all times.
