We are recruiting for a motivated Certified Nursing Assistant - PEDS/PICU - PT/Rotating Shift to join our team!

Department

Pediatrics is a 20-bed unit that provides compassionate care for common illnesses including urinary tract infections, respiratory problems, dehydration, ingestions, abdominal pain, appendicitis, and gallbladder disease. We also offer subspecialty care in pediatric neurology and seizure treatment, pediatric infectious disease, and pediatric cardiology. Surgical specialties include general surgery, ENT, orthopedic, and neurosurgery. The nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:4.

Job Summary

Under close supervision, assists professional nursing and care providers in providing care to all patients with respect for their uniqueness. Collaborates with the RN and healthcare team. Assists with basic patient care and activities of daily living. Maintains unit-specific documentation as required. Orders, maintains, and utilizes supplies for the assigned unit.

Essential Functions

  1. Provides a safe environment for all patients, ensuring proper patient positions and care throughout their stay. (10%)
  2. Assists the RN/LPN in carrying out the established plan of care for assigned patients. (10%)
  3. Practices sound safety and infection control practices according to hospital policies and procedures. (10%)
  4. Obtains vital signs, differentiates normal from abnormal findings, and reports any abnormalities to the RN/LPN. (5%)
  5. Participates as a member of the patient care team by seeking additional tasks or helping others when not busy. (5%)
  6. Accurately gathers information and performs data entry. (5%)
  7. Performs transportation responsibilities, including moving patients, delivering specimens, blood, medications, and accessing the pneumatic tube system. (5%)
  8. Documents the Plan of Care ensuring information is properly transcribed and complete. (5%)
  9. Implements care based on prioritized patient needs in coordination with the RN/LPN. (5%)
  10. Participates in outcome-focused care plans with measurable goals for patients and families. (5%)
  11. Coordinates care with multidisciplinary teams and participates in discharge planning. (5%)
  12. Assists in identifying realistic outcomes to facilitate patients' health and ongoing care. (5%)
  13. Performs chart audits to promote quality improvement. (5%)
  14. Monitors patient/family responses and reports changes to update the care plan. (5%)
  15. Adheres to professional standards, regulations, hospital policies, and standards of care. (5%)

Education

  • No High School Diploma or GED required

Work Experience

  • Less than 1 year required

Licenses

  • CNA - Certified Nursing Assistant - DORA required
  • BLS - Basic Life Support (CPR) - AHA or American Red Cross required

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Effective and appropriate conduct of duties and responsibilities for patient care.
  • Knowledge of growth and development principles and ability to assess data and interpret cultural information.
  • Completion of clinical competency standards.
  • Ability to use medical equipment and instruments.
  • Effective working relationships with patients, staff, and the public.
  • Calm and effective reaction in emergencies.
  • Ability to interpret and apply guidelines and procedures.
  • Clear communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite; EPIC documentation preferred.
