Job Overview

The Clinical Assistant (CA) assists patients and families by supporting personal hygiene and daily living needs. The CA provides comfort, transportation, and vital sign monitoring. In addition, the CA supports and assists nursing personnel and other providers in diagnostic procedures and technical treatments and functions as a member of the healthcare team.

Job Status: 36 hours/week

Shift: Nights (Three 12 hour night shifts per week)

Qualifications

  • EDUCATION – High school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • CERTIFICATION(S) – Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) for the Healthcare Provider by the American Heart Association is required.
  • Designation as a Certified Nurse Aide (CNA), Medical Assistant (MA), and/or Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) is required.
  • LICENSURE – Current Colorado state CNA license or Current Colorado state Emergency Medical Technician- Basic or A-EMT or EMT-Intermediate
  • Proof of successful completion of health assessment and nursing foundation courses, in addition to basic medical/surgical clinical rotation in an accredited nursing program may be considered in lieu of designation as a CNA, MA and/or EMT.

Responsibilities

POPULATION SPECIFIC CARE

  • Neonate - <30 days
  • Infancy - >30 days to 1yr
  • Toddlers - >1yr to 3yrs
  • Pre-Schoolers - >3yrs to 5yrs
  • School age - >5yrs to 13yrs
  • Adolescent - >13yrs to 18yrs
  • Adult - >18yrs to 65yrs.

Essential Functions

  • Attends to the individual needs of patients, which may include assistance with grooming, bathing, oral hygiene, feeding, incontinent care, toileting, transferring, providing comfort and communicating patient needs with other members of the healthcare team.
  • Performs various tasks as assigned, including checking vital signs, weighing patients, applying creams/ointments, applying/changing dressings and collecting specimens.
  • Meets patient needs by utilizing resources and materials; transporting patients; answering patients' call lights and requests; and reporting observations of the patient to healthcare team members.
  • Serves as a conduit between patients and other healthcare providers by recording and communicating all issues to medical team members.
  • Documents actions by completing forms, reports, logs, and records.
  • Stores and prepares rooms and medical equipment for patient and healthcare team member use.
  • Participates in departmental committees and projects as assigned.

  • Scope and Level: Guidelines are generally numerous, well established, and directly applicable to the work assignment. Work is explained by general instructions.
  • Complexity: Duties are generally repetitive and restricted in scope but may be intricate. Employee applies standardized practices.
  • Decision Making: Limited to relating organizational policies to specific cases; non-routine issues are escalated to supervisor.
  • Communications: Exchanges information with some discretion and judgment within job parameters.
  • Supervision: Performs duties under normal supervision, work is subject to review.

Physical Requirements

  • Frequent standing/walking up to 12 hours/day, using hands for keyboarding/writing, sitting 2-4 hours.
  • Occasional lifting up to 35 pounds.
  • Constant use of sight and hearing for daily duties.
  • Assist or assume direct patient care as census permits. Possible falls or weight-bearing during patient transfers.

Work Environment

  • Exposure to blood/body fluids, cold/heat, infectious diseases, and dampness.
  • Decision-making under pressure, managing stress, effective teamwork.

Salary Range: $34,796.81 to $52,195.21 annually; $16.73 to $25.09 hourly.
