Certified Nursing Assistant, Medical, Withdrawal Assistance Unit

Primary Function: Responsible for performing various patient care activities and related non-professional services to care for the personnel needs and comforts of patients. Responsible for transcribing physician orders, performing receptionist, clerical duties, and coordinating non-nursing services within the unit. Work under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse and observe all hospital policies and procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Provide general patient care, assist with personal hygiene, and perform routine activities as directed by the Registered Nurse.
  • Initiate, assemble, and maintain accurate functional charts for all patients in the assigned unit. Transcribe written physician orders and complete all necessary forms, requisitions, and communications to implement orders and record clinical data, such as vital signs received from the nursing unit.
  • Maintain patient medical records in an orderly manner and document all care provided and significant information legibly, accurately, and completely.
  • Observe assigned patients and report any patient care problems, changes in patient condition, or unexpected occurrences to RN/Team Leader.
  • Maintain a proper inventory of supplies needed to provide continuous service, minimize downtime, and maintain a safe, clean, and functional working environment in the nursing station and area.
  • Screen visitors, telephone calls, incoming mail, and other correspondence. Answer inquiries regarding procedures and policies related to departmental functions.
  • Prepare patient charts and deliver them to Medical Records upon discharge or to the Nursing office upon patient expiration.
  • Maintain up-to-date records on computer for Bed Management.
  • Access lab results from the computer for physicians.
  • File documents following standard procedures.
  • Perform routine tasks such as giving enemas, reinforcing simple non-sterile dressings, applying binders, collecting specimens, and applying heat or cold devices.
  • Assist the RN or LPN in caring for seriously ill patients or in complex treatments or procedures.
  • Maintain current knowledge of the specialty by attending seminars, in-services, and reading journals.
  • Perform all other related duties as assigned.

Job Qualifications and Requirements: Vocational/technical training and more than six months of job-related experience or equivalent are required. Certified Nursing Assistant Certification, basic computer skills, and knowledge of medical terminology are also required.
