Job summary

Ochsner Health System is seeking a Certified Nursing Assistant for the ICU on the West Bank to work days. The role supports basic patient care under a licensed nurse, ensuring patient safety and effective communication with the care team.

The position requires a Louisiana CNA, a high school diploma or equivalent, and completion of BLS and CPI within 60 days of hire. The CNA will assist with plan of care, maintain a safe environment, document patient tasks, and adapt to diverse patient needs.

Education

Required -High school diploma or equivalent

Work Experience

Preferred- Hospital and telemetry experience

Certifications

Required -Current Louisiana Certification as a Nurses’ Assistant (CNA)

Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association to be obtained within 60 days from hire

Crisis Prevention and Intervention (CPI) to be obtained within 60 days from hire

Knowledge Skills and Abilities (KSAs)

• Proficiency in using computers, software, and web-based applications.

• Effective verbal and written communication skills and ability to present information clearly and professionally to varying levels of individuals throughout the patient care process.

• Excellent organizational skills.

• Excellent time management skills.

• Ability to work a flexible work schedule (e.g. 24/7, weekend, holiday, on call availability).

Job Duties

• Supports the plan of care as delegated by staff nurse within scope of skills verification.

• Maintains a clean and safe environment in the patient care area.

• Provides care based on physical, psychosocial, educational, safety and related criteria, appropriate to the ages of patients served in assigned areas.

• Communicates patient care needs effectively with patients, families, and other staff members, including multi-disciplinary teams.

• Completes documentation of patient related tasks.

• Adapts behavior to the specific patient population, including but not limited to: respect for privacy, method of introduction to the patient, adapting explanation of services or procedures to be performed, requesting permissions and communication style.

• Performs other related duties as assigned.
