Job summary

Summary: Under general supervision, provides basic patient care to all patients, including those in isolation. Provides age-specific assistance with activities of daily living and therapeutic measures to improve patient comfort. Under direct supervision, ensures patient safety under ANMC care through observation.

Responsibilities
  • Observe patients experiencing suicidal ideation, behavioral health issues, or other safety concerns to ensure safety and stability. Report significant changes to the primary RN.
  • Document and report information within scope of knowledge; conduct environmental assessments to maintain a safe environment.
  • Provide basic care including hygiene and activities of daily living; assist with mobility and safe transfer techniques; transport patients and equipment; monitor body functions and apply safety measures.
  • Obtain and record vital signs and other specified parameters; document findings in the electronic health record and report to the RN. Identify and report changes in patient status.
  • Perform patient treatments as directed (e.g., heat/cold applications, simple dressings); provide ostomy, post-mortem, and indwelling catheter care.
  • Assist with procedures such as oral suctioning, care of tracheostomies, and long-term feeding tube sites; perform non-invasive specimen collection and other tasks as directed.
  • Recognize abnormal signs and symptoms; initiate CPR and other life support as required; adhere to safety and disaster procedures.
  • Assist with examinations and sterile procedures; transport patients and equipment; maintain equipment cleanliness and safety; protect patient confidentiality.
  • Contribute to infection control and collaborate with the health care team to deliver respectful patient care; perform clerical duties related to patient care and records.
Qualifications
Minimum Education
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
Minimum Experience
  • Certified Nursing Assistant I: Non-supervisory – 0 years
  • Certified Nursing Assistant II: Non-supervisory – 2 years
  • Certified Nursing Assistant III: Non-supervisory – 4 years
Minimum Certification
  • Current State of Alaska Nurse’s Aide license.
  • Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) required.
Preferred Experience
  • Previous work experience in a hospital setting.
Additional Requirements
  • Must complete Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) training and Suicide Observation training within sixty (60) days of hire.
