Job summary

Cape Fear Valley Health System in Dunn, North Carolina, is seeking a Nursing Assistant to join the Emergency Department team. The role involves assisting in patient admissions, providing direct patient care, and maintaining a clean, safe environment.

Responsibilities

• Assist in admission of patients to the unit and orient to the unit and equipment.
• Respond to patient needs with direct assistance or by reporting needs.
• Carry out delegated nursing tasks to support the care plan.
• Maintain patient safety via proper equipment and supplies.
• Access medication/supply room for patient care items.
• Keep patient environment clean and well-stocked.
• Support cost containment and accurate charging for services.
• Participate in educational and performance improvement activities.
• Maintain unit competency and assist with waived testing as needed.
• Support patient satisfaction and hospital throughput within HIP guidelines.
• Other duties as assigned.

Summary

Major Job Functions

• Assists in the admission of patients to the unit to include orientation to the unit, hospital routine and patient care equipment

• Responds to needs of patients with direct assistance when able or by reporting patient needs to the appropriate person

• Assists with implementation of nursing plan of care by carrying out delegated patient care tasks

• Assists in maintaining patient safety to include the proper use of equipment and supplies

• Access to medication/supply room to retrieve patient care items for patient care use

• Maintains a well-stocked, clean patient environment

• Actively participates in cost containment and assists in accurate charging for patient services

• Participates in educational and Performance Improvement activities

• Maintains (if needed) 4 of NAII skills per unit competency

• Performs waived testing per unit competency

• Actively demonstrates responsibility concerning customer satisfaction, patient throughput and hospital functional capacity through compliance with the Hospital Innovation Project (HIP)

• Other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

The following qualifications, or equivalents, are the minimum requirements necessary to perform the essential functions of this job:

Education and Formal Training :

• High school graduate or equivalent required

• Nursing Assistant certification required

• Current registration with North Carolina Division of Facility Services

Work Experience :

• None

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required :

• Proficiency in reading, writing, and speaking the English language

• Excellent guest relations skills

• Verbal and written skills required

• Ability to accept supervision from a multidisciplinary team

• Flexible in approach to work tasks and schedules

• Able to grasp new skills and techniques

• Has basic knowledge of age-specific considerations for patients served

• Has basic computer skills

Physical Requirements :

• Ability to work variable shifts

• Ability to turn and lift patients

• Much standing, walking, bending and lifting

• Possess visual and auditory acuity for observing patients

• Position involves exposure to blood and body secretions and may involve skin, eye, mucous membrane, or parenteral contact with blood or other potentially infectious material

• Must be able to lift 35 pounds
