Job summary

California Correctional Health Care Services in Lassen County, Susanville, CA, seeks a Certified Nursing Assistant for a limited-term 12-month appointment with possible extension or permanency. The CNA will work under the supervision of the Supervising RN II/III, performing basic nursing care and assisting patients with daily living needs.

The role is based at High Desert State Prison (HDSP). The authorized HAM rate is $4,840; a recruitment/retention bonus of $2,600 is paid after 12 qualifying

Job Description and Duties

Under the supervision of the Supervising Registered Nurse II/III, Correctional Facility (CF), and the delegation and clinical direction of the Registered Nurse (RN), CF and other members of the licensed nursing team, the Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) performs various patient care activities and related nonprofessional health care activities for patients in a variety of treatment facilities and health care settings. As directed and in collaboration with the nursing care team, the CNA is primarily responsible for performing basic nursing care procedures, assisting patients with physical, personal care, activities of daily living, and ambulatory assistance needs. The CNA is responsible for addressing the ongoing needs of patients, working with the licensed nursing staff and other health care providers, and promoting the efficient, appropriate, and cost-effective use of health care resources.

Salary Note

Effective July 1, 2025, in accordance with the applicable Memorandum of Understanding, the Personal Leave Program 2025 (PLP 2025) was implemented in response to the status of the State budget. PLP 2025 requires each full-time employee in Bargaining Unit 20, and related Excluded, Exempt and Statutory Exempt employees, will have their base salary reduced by 3 percent and will receive 5 PLP 2025 leave credits monthly through June 2027. Salaries do not reflect the recent changes.
