Working under the direction of licensed nursing professionals, you'll support daily living activities, encourage developmental growth, and help patients maintain comfort, dignity, and independence. Through meaningful interactions with patients and families and collaboration with an interdisciplinary care team, you'll help create an environment where every child feels supported, valued, and empowered to reach their fullest potential.

As a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA), a typical day may include:

  • Supporting meal preparation and setup, feeding assistance, hydration, and monitoring intake as directed by the nursing team
  • Assisting with patient positioning, turning, transfers, ambulation, and mobility activities using appropriate equipment and safe patient handling techniques
  • Providing individualized, age-appropriate care that supports each patient's developmental, physical, emotional, and psychosocial needs
  • Observing and reporting changes in patient condition, behavior, skin integrity, mobility, intake and output, and comfort to the licensed nurse
  • Measuring and documenting vital signs, height, weight, and other assigned patient observations in accordance with established procedures
  • Helping children participate in school, therapy sessions, recreational programs, and community activities when appropriate
  • Engaging patients in age-appropriate play, interaction, and activities that promote emotional well-being, social connection, and quality of life
  • Partnering with nurses, therapists, educators, families, and other interdisciplinary team members to support individualized care plans and patient goals
  • Maintaining a safe and comfortable care environment through consistent infection prevention practices, hand hygiene, and appropriate isolation precautions
  • Documenting care provided accurately and promptly while maintaining patient confidentiality and following organizational and regulatory requirements
  • Maintaining required certifications, completing ongoing education and competencies, and supporting additional patient care needs as assigned

This role might be for you if:

  • You enjoy providing hands-on, compassionate care to infants, children, adolescents, and young adults with complex medical and developmental needs
  • You understand the importance of helping patients maintain dignity, comfort, independence, and personal preferences throughout daily care
  • You bring patience, empathy, and a nurturing approach to supporting children with a wide range of physical, emotional, and rehabilitation needs
  • You are comfortable assisting with activities of daily living, feeding, mobility, positioning, and other essential patient care responsibilities
  • You recognize the importance of observing subtle changes in patient condition and communicating concerns promptly to the nursing team
  • You enjoy engaging children in age-appropriate play, learning, and recreational activities that support emotional and developmental well-being
  • You value teamwork and enjoy collaborating with nurses, therapists, educators, families, and other healthcare professionals
  • You communicate clearly and respectfully with patients, families, caregivers, and colleagues
  • You are organized, dependable, and comfortable managing multiple responsibilities within a pediatric long-term care environment
  • You are committed to patient safety, infection prevention, cultural sensitivity, confidentiality, and family-centered care
