Job Summary

Performs patient care under the supervision of the Licensed Practical Nurse or Registered Nurse.

Responsibilities

Essential Functions

  • Assist patients with hygiene, mobility, hydration, elimination, and nutritional needs.
  • Provide routine treatments and maintain a safe, clean, organized patient environment.
  • Ensure safety and security of patients, families, and staff.
  • Protect patient privacy, rights, and confidentiality.
  • Follow standard precautions, including hand hygiene between patients.
  • Assist with patient admission, transfer, and discharge procedures.
  • Record vital signs and intake/output as directed.
  • Accurately document patient information per Orlando Health policies.
  • Report safety concerns and patient condition updates to the RN or healthcare team.
  • Participate in handoff reports and hourly rounding.
  • Deliver exceptional care and service to patients, families, and colleagues.
  • Demonstrate competency in assigned tasks as per Orlando Health standards.
  • Maintain a clean and organized nursing unit.
  • Handle incoming calls, patient requests, and guest inquiries.
  • Transport items, equipment, blood products, and medications (excluding controlled substances and chemotherapy drugs).
  • Maintain regular attendance in accordance with policies and regulations.
  • Comply with all organizational policies and procedures.
Additional Functions
  • Support and participate in organizational changes.
  • Engage in Performance Improvement activities.
  • Understand legal issues, patient rights, and regulatory standards.
  • Use time and resources efficiently.
  • Attend staff meetings and mandatory training.
  • Provide care appropriate to the patient's developmental stage, assessing data to meet individual needs.
Qualifications
Education/Training

High school diploma or equivalent. One year of nursing assistant experience in the past five years, or completion of approved training such as:

  • Nursing Assistant or Patient Care Assistant Program
  • State of Florida Certified Nursing Assistant
  • State of Florida Licensed Practical Nurse

Or graduation from an approved nursing school, or licensed medical personnel (e.g., Corpsman, EMT, Paramedic).
Note: Medical personnel licensed outside the U.S. may also qualify.

Licensure/Certification

Current BLS/Healthcare Provider certification.

Experience

One year of relevant healthcare experience within the past five years, or no experience required for recent graduates or those with listed training.
