Job Summary

Assists physicians and nurses to meet health care needs of patients

Essential Functions

• Assists assigned patients with daily care, hygiene, feeding and ambulating
• Takes vital signs, height and weight
• Measures intake and output
• Assists patient's with meals according to plan of care, dispenses and gathers meal trays from room noting amount ingested.
• Assists and monitor ambulating as directed
• Aids with lifting and transferring patients using available lifting devices and good body mechanics.
• Maintain safe and clean working environment including patient rooms and ancillary areas.
• Complete assigned tasks in a timely manner
• Records findings on designated documentation forms timely and legibly
• Identifies and facilitates adequate patient care supplies needed on the unit
• Answers telephone, takes messages and routes appropriately as needed
• Answers patient call lights timely and appropriately.
• Assist patients to appropriate medical appointments, clinic, and monthly evaluations or outside trips. Performs all duties as assigned by team leader, charge nurse or nursing supervisor within scope of practice.

Work Environment

Correctional officers provide security; however, some degree of risk of verbal and physical assault from inmates exists. May treat patients that are confused, irrational, agitated, and/or uncooperative.

Position Type and Expected hours of work

Because patients need round the clock care, working hours include days, nights, weekends, holidays and on-call. Rotating shifts, weekends as well as holiday and work during inclement weather will required. Adheres to site/contract specific regarding on-call requirements and mandated schedules/overtime. Team members may be mandated to work shifts and/or overtime due to site/staffing or emergencies.

Essential staff is defined as healthcare and behavioral professionals that may be required or mandated.

Education and Experience

High School diploma or equivalent, certification as CNA in New York State.

Preferred Education and Experience

One-year experience in a CNA role

Other Requirements

Subject to initial and ongoing security clearance requirements.
