We are recruiting for a motivated Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) - Surgical ICU (SICU) to join our team!

Department

Surgical ICU (SICU) is a key part of the Level I Trauma Center, safety net, and tertiary care center of Denver Health. Patients come from throughout the region to be cared for in our 23-bed unit. The SICU is equipped with all the necessary technology and emergency equipment to provide comprehensive care to critically ill and injured patients. Our patient population includes critically ill or complex general surgery patients and traumatically injured patients aged 15 years and older. Approximately 70-80% of patients have experienced trauma from incidents such as motor vehicle accidents, falls, or violent injuries. The nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:2, with critical patients cared for 1:1.

Job Summary

Under close supervision, assists professional nursing and care providers in delivering respectful care tailored to each patient's needs. Collaborates with RNs and the healthcare team, assists with basic patient care and activities of daily living, maintains documentation, and manages supplies for the unit.

Essential Functions

  • Provides a safe environment, ensuring proper patient positioning and care throughout their stay.
  • Assists RNs and LPNs in implementing the care plan for assigned patients.
  • Practices safety and infection control according to hospital policies.
  • Obtains vital signs, reports abnormal findings, and communicates concerns promptly.
  • Participates as a team member, offering assistance when available.
  • Accurately collects and enters data.
  • Performs transportation duties, including moving patients and delivering specimens and medications.
  • Documents the plan of care accurately and completely.
  • Supports care implementation based on patient needs and participates in discharge planning.
  • Contributes to quality improvement through chart audits and monitoring patient responses.
  • Adheres to professional standards, regulations, and hospital policies.

Education

  • No High School Diploma or GED required.

Work Experience

  • Less than 1 year required.

Licenses

  • CNA Certification from DORA required.
  • BLS certification from AHA or Red Cross required.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Effective communication skills and ability to use medical equipment.
  • Understanding of growth and development principles and cultural competency.
  • Ability to react calmly in emergencies and interpret guidelines.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office; EPIC documentation preferred.

Salary

$20.00 - $25.65 / hr
