Description

JOB SUMMARY

The Clinical Nursing Assistant is responsible for coordinating and delivering patient care utilizing the nursing process under the direction of a Registered Nurse in a hospital setting.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND SCOPE

  • Assist physicians and other health care providers with routine examinations and procedures, as well as procurement of equipment and supplies during emergency situations.

  • Observe, collect, and document patient information obtained while providing care and promptly report significant changes in the patient's condition to a registered nurse or physician.

  • Assist patients and their families during admission to the clinical area, orientation to the hospital/clinic/home health experience, and discharge.

  • Provide care/treatments to patients as outlined in the plan of care, including but not limited to:

  • Monitoring of vital signs

  • Measurement of height and weight

  • Specimen collection

  • Skin preps/scrubs such as chlorhexidine (CHG) bathing

  • Catheter care

  • Capillary blood glucose checks

  • Simple wound care

  • Range-of-motion exercises

  • Drain care

  • Assist patients with routine activities of daily living (ADL) such as bathing, dressing, feeding, and assisting with ambulation as outlined in the plan of care.

  • Maintain an effective clinical work environment, including but not limited to cleaning the work area, changing linens, monitoring supply levels, and transporting patients/specimens throughout the hospital.

  • Ensure competency in all required skills and complete annual competency assessments as per the documented checklist. Follow policies and procedures and perform other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Required

  • Must have a nursing assistant certification, such as Nurse Aide I registration by the North Carolina Board of Nursing (NCBON) or an equivalent certification.

  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
