Job summary

Valley Baptist Health System seeks a patient-focused Nursing Assistant for full-time day shifts at Valley Baptist Harlingen. You will work under close supervision to provide basic and intermediate nursing care across adult units, including maternal-child and ED services.

A sign-on bonus may be available. Qualified candidates hold a high school diploma or equivalent, with 1 year hospital experience preferred and a current nurse’s aide or related certification (BLS/CPR required).

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• Preferred 1 year hospital experience.
• Current state or national nurse’s aide certification or related certification (phlebotomist, medical technician, patient care technician, medical assistant, EKG tech).
• BLS CPR certification obtained through AHA Training Center.

Responsibilities

• Provide basic and intermediate nursing care under supervision.
• Care for adult patients across units (ages 18+) with varying unit requirements.
• Support Maternal Child Units, Endoscopy, Emergency Department, and Behavioral Health/Gero-Psych units as needed.

Job Summary

Full Time, Days

This position may qualify for a sign-on bonus.

Under close supervision of a licensed nurse, provides basic and intermediate nursing care for assigned group of patients based on competence.

General Nursing Units care for patients from age 18 years to maturity. Unit specific variation may apply.

Special Care Areas care for patients 18 years through adult with high-risk conditions.

Maternal Child Units: Labor and Delivery care includes patients who have a pregnancy related condition.

Nursery care includes care for the newborn until discharge.

Endoscopy Unit cares for patients 18 years and older.

Emergency Department provides care to patients of all ages.

Behavioral Health/Gero-Psych Unit provides care for patients 17 years and older requiring psychiatric care. Completes established competencies for the position within designated introductory period. Other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

MINIMUM EDUCATION: High School Graduate or equivalent.

Preferred Education

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE:

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE: 1 year hospital experience

Required Certifications/Licensure

Possession of a current state or national nurse’s aide certification or a certification as a phlebotomist, medical technician, patient care technician, medical assistant, EKG tech or in another related field.

Preferred Certifications/Licensure

REQUIRED COURSES/ COMPLETIONS (e.g., CPR): BLS –Obtained through approved American Heart Association Training Center.
