Job description

*$4,000 Sign On Bonus for qualified candidates with one year commitment to UVA Health*

Performs a variety of patient care and administrative support functions under the supervision of Medical Center professionals in an inpatient or outpatient setting or in a patient's home.

1. Assists patients with personal care as needed for optimal recovery during hospitalization. Performs basic nursing skills, as delegated by an RN and in accordance with policy and procedure, to promote patient health and wellness.
2. Captures and records patient data, such as vital signs, weights, and measurement of intake and output.
3. Reports changes in patient condition and abnormal findings in patient data promptly to the registered nurse.
4. Assists patient with personal hygiene needs.
5. Assists patient with ADLs, exercise, and ambulation.
6. Obtains, labels, and forwards specimens for diagnostic testing.
7. Documents all patient care activities.
8. Assists professional healthcare staff with performing physical examinations and patient procedures.
9. Provides for a safe environment and safe delivery of care.
10. Observes for environmental factors affecting patient/staff safety on an ongoing basis. Reports any potential hazards immediately.
11. Identifies patients prior to any intervention.
12. Maintains safe transfer and patient positioning practices.
13. Cleans equipment and performs safety checks as directed.
14. Reports incidents involving patients, staff, and/or visitors promptly to RN or supervisor using the institution's quality reporting process.
15. Demonstrates knowledge of institution's fire/emergency/infection control programs.
16. Performs administrative support functions, including completing medical record duties, supply stocking, inventory, and ordering.
17. Performs additional duties as directed, such as scheduling diagnostic procedures, meeting and greeting patients, or delivering supplies and pharmaceuticals.
18. Maintains necessary skills and competencies, including equipment use such as lifting and moving patients.
19. Identifies strengths and opportunities for professional development and goals for self-improvement.
20. Completes annual mandatory training activities and regulatory in-service requirements within established timeframes.
21. Other duties may be assigned as needed.

Position Compensation Range: $15.37 - $23.82 Hourly

CERTIFIED NURSE ASSISTANT

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Education: High School Graduate or Equivalent.

Experience: No experience required. Relevant experience preferred.

Licensure: Certified Nursing Aide certification (CNA) through the Virginia Board of Nursing. American Heart Association (AHA) Health Care Provider BLS certification required.

Range: $15.37 - $23.82

NURSE ASSISTANT

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Education: High School Graduate or Equivalent. Must have completed a state-approved Nurse Aide education program or have completed the Fundamentals of Nursing course as a student nurse.

Experience: No experience required.

Licensure: Obtain Certification as Nurse Aide (CNA) in Virginia within 4 months of hire or be a student nurse who has completed the Fundamentals of Nursing course. AHA BLS certification required.

Range: $15.00 - $20.34

PATIENT CARE TECHNICIAN

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Education: High School Graduate or Equivalent.

Experience: No experience required.

Licensure: AHA BLS Certification required.

• Certified to practice as a Nurse Aide in Virginia and must meet one of the following:

(1) Completion of UVa PCT Education Program or an approved PCT Education Program.

(2) At least 1 year recent experience in a similar role from an outside institution, with successful completion of a written exam and clinical skills demonstration during a 6-month probation.

(3) Passing a nationally recognized PCT Certification exam, with certificate as verification.

Current student nurses who have completed relevant clinical experience are exempt. EMT or higher certification candidates will complete UVA PCT Course within 6 months. Graduates of accredited nursing programs are also eligible.

Range: $15.37 - $23.82

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Frequent bending/stooping, driving (Home Health Aide only), lifting/pushing/pulling 20-50 lbs, and >100 lbs (Home Health Aide only). May be exposed to chemicals, blood, body fluids, and infectious diseases.
