Job summary

Children’s Medical Center in Palm Harbor, FL is seeking a full-time Medical Assistant to support clinical and administrative teams in a fast-paced pediatric setting. Evening and weekend shifts rotate.

The role includes triaging patients, documenting vitals, assisting with procedures, coordinating referrals, and maintaining patient confidentiality while delivering excellent customer service.

Qualifications

  • Education: Minimum high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Certification: CMA or CNA (or both).
  • Experience: 1–2 years in medical field preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Greets patients and families; escorts to exam room.
  • Prepares patient for examination and documents vital signs.
  • Updates medications, allergies, and chief complaint; reconciles meds.
  • Assists with procedures: labs, venipuncture, immunizations, screens.
  • Coordinates referrals and follow-ups for diagnostic testing.

Job description

Children’s Medical Center is a fast-paced general pediatric practice proudly serving our community for over 30 years, with four convenient locations. We are seeking a full-time Medical Assistant to join our Patient-Centered Medical Home team. This role provides clinical and administrative support to providers, patients, and care team members to ensure efficient workflow and high-quality patient care. Evening and weekend shifts are required on a rotating basis.

Specific Duties And Responsibilities
  • Ensures patient documentation for visits is scanned and assembled in the chart for the physician's review.
  • Greets and escorts the patient and family to examine the room.
  • Prepares patient for examination.
  • Obtains and documents vital signs.
  • Updates chief complaint/reason for the visit.
  • Updates and reconciles medications for the provider's review.
  • Update allergies.
  • Updates preferred pharmacy.
  • Updates any missing preventative and/or chronic care services.
  • Performs standing orders based on provider-developed protocols.
  • Administers and reviews screening tests.
  • Huddles with a physician.
  • Performs and documents and/or assists provider with procedures, e.g., labs, venipuncture, immunizations, vision and hearing screening, pulse ox, nebulizer treatments, ear piercing, circumcisions, and catheterizations.
  • Initiates school and sports physical forms presented by the patient for completion.
  • Follows up on no-show appointments.
  • Provides patient/family with education regarding diagnosis, well-visit guidance, medications, tests, and procedures.
  • Escorts patient and family to and huddles with Referral Coordinator and/or Care Coordinator for further coordination of care and outside referrals for diagnostic testing or consultation.
  • Adheres to safety, infection control, environmental, and patient confidentiality policies.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Takes the initiative to proactively assist other team members without direct supervision and to resolve problems.
  • Maintains open and effective communication with providers and employees to ensure quality patient care.
  • Strong phone, spelling, and grammar, computer, and keyboarding skills.
  • Maintains a professional appearance, follows dress and uniform policy, and maintains neat work habits.
  • Participates in ongoing skills development.
Qualifications
  • Education: Minimum high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Certification: Certified/Registered Medical Assistant/Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA)
  • Experience: 1-2 years of experience in the medical field preferred
