Description
St. Croix Health is looking for a full-time (0.75 FTE) CNA to work in our Med/Surg department. This position will work straight night shifts (7pm - 7:30am), every 3rd weekend and every 3rd holiday.
The Certified Nursing Assistant is responsible for performing many basic care tasks for patients, like grooming, dressing, bathing, eating and exercising. They also assist the nursing staff with medical tasks like taking blood, monitoring vitals with medical equipment and reporting patient behavior and wellbeing. Their role is to ensure patients are comfortable and well cared for while working under the scope of a Registered Nurse.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assist patients to perform ADLs, such as getting out of bed, bathing, dressing, using the toilet, standing, walking, or exercising
- Delivers efficient/excellent care to all patients on the unit. Duties include performing ADLs, transferring, ambulation, dressing, toileting, turning and repositioning, feeding, bathing, etc.
- Keeps rooms and patient care supplies clean including changing soiled linen, emptying commodes or bedpans
- Turn or reposition bedridden patients
- Answer patient call signals to determine patients’ needs
- Assist patients to eat or drink
- Undress, wash, and dress patients who are unable to do so themselves
- Lift or assist others to lift patients to move them on and off beds
- Supply, collect, or empty bedpans
- Wash, groom, shave, or drape patients to prepare them for surgery, treatment, or examination
- Works directly with the care team to deliver quality patient care
- Communicates openly with team members about changes to meet needs of patients and their families
- Reports pertinent observations or patient requests to the RN
- Reports any skin issues to the RN
- Communicate with nurse about changes in patient care to meet the patients’ needs
- Assist nurse in operation of medical equipment or provision of patient care
- Apply clean dressings, slings, stockings, or support bandages, under the direction of the nurse
- Maintains unit order, cleanliness and safety.
- Keeps unit and patient rooms orderly completes checklists to ensure stocking and unit maintenance is completed
- Sends work orders as appropriate
- Initiates additional cleaning as necessary without prompting, e.g., defrosting refrigerators and organizing cupboards
- Clean and sanitize patient rooms, bathrooms, examination rooms, and other patient areas
- Restock patient rooms with personal hygiene items
- Stock or issue medical supplies
- Document or report observations of patient behavior, complaints, or physical symptoms to nurses or in EMR
- Review patients’ dietary restrictions, food allergies, and preferences to ensure patient receives appropriate diet
- Observe or examine patients to detect symptoms that may require medical attention, such as bruises, open wounds, etc.
- Communicate with patients to ascertain feelings or need for assistance or social and emotional support
- Responds to patient needs in a timely manner; demonstrates use of safety equipment.
Requirements
Education & Licensure:
- Current WI Nurse Aide registry required
- BLS certification required (through American Heart Association or American Red Cross BLS course)
Experience:
- Prior CNA experience preferred
