Job summary

Portneuf Medical Center in Pocatello, ID is seeking a day shift, part-time Medical Surgical Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA). You will work closely with registered nurses to deliver safe patient care, document observations, and assist with activities of daily living in a fast-paced hospital environment.

The role requires Idaho CNA certification and BLS within 14 days of hire; prior acute or long-term care experience is preferred.

Qualifications

  • High School or GED is required.
  • Current CNA Certification in Idaho is required.
  • BLS certification within 14 days of hire.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology is preferred.
  • 1 year of experience in acute or long-term care is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Work with the registered nurse to deliver safe patient care.
  • Communicate and carry out delegated tasks under RN supervision.
  • Document data and report observations to the RN.
  • Follow safety protocols and ensure patient comfort and safety.
  • Record vital signs and monitor patient status.
  • Notify changes in patient condition promptly to the RN.
  • Document observations accurately in the medical record.
  • Assist with mobility, bathing, dressing, eating and ADLs.
  • Provide basic patient transport and unit housekeeping when needed.

Learn About a Day in the Life of a CNA:
Responsibilities
  • Work in partnership with the registered nurse to support the delivery of care in a safe patient environment that promotes caring and healing.
  • Demonstrate basic knowledge and skills necessary to communicate appropriately and carry out delegated tasks for patients under the supervision of a registered nurse.
  • Document data as directed, and report observations and patient concerns to the registered nurse.
  • Ensure all safety precautions are observed, including making sure the call light is within reach, bed alarms are used as appropriate, side rails are up, bed is in the lowest position, seat belts are in place, etc.
  • Obtain and record patients' vital signs.
  • Monitor patients and report patients’ condition at regular intervals and before completion of shift, and promptly report any signs or symptoms of concern to the appropriate party.
  • Ensure accurate documentation of observations and interventions in the medical record.
  • Respond promptly to all call lights.
  • Assist patients with mobility and basic tasks, such as bathing, dressing, eating, and other ADLs.
  • Provide basic patient transport and housekeeping duties as needed.
  • Participate in Purposeful Hourly Rounding and Bedside Shift Report as directed.
  • Perform direct and indirect patient care duties as assigned and may provide clerical support to the assigned unit.
  • Maintain unit records and orders/stocks routine supplies for the unit.
Qualifications

Job Requirements:

  • High School or GED.
  • Current CNA Certification in the State of Idaho.
  • BLS certification must be obtained within 14 days of hire or transfer into the role and prior to providing direct patient care.

Preferred Job Requirements:

  • Knowledge of medical terminology.
  • 1 year of experience in acute or long-term care.
