Position Summary
The George Washington University Hospital is seeking skilled and compassionate Certified Nursing Assistants (CNAs) to join our Intensive Care Unit (ICU). As a CNA in the ICU, you will provide vital patient care and support under the direction of Registered Nurses and medical staff. This is a critical role for maintaining patient safety, assisting with complex care procedures, and ensuring a high standard of care in a fast-paced, high-acuity setting.
Main Responsibilities
- Assist patients with activities of daily living, including bathing, dressing, feeding, and mobility support.
- Monitor and record vital signs, including blood pressure, heart rate, oxygen saturation, and temperature.
- Assist with patient transfers, turning, and repositioning, ensuring proper body mechanics and preventing skin breakdown.
- Provide direct support to nursing staff during emergency situations and complex procedures.
- Monitor and report changes in patient condition, including changes in mental status, vital signs, and skin integrity.
- Assist with the setup and maintenance of medical equipment, including oxygen delivery systems and suction devices.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized patient care environment in adherence to infection control protocols.
- Accurately document patient care activities in electronic medical records (EMR).
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Active CNA certification in Washington, D.C., or completion of at least 2 years of nursing school.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Minimum of 6 months of CNA experience in an ICU, step-down, or telemetry unit.
- Strong communication, observational, and critical thinking skills.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, high-stress environment while maintaining composure and professionalism.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in a teaching or academic hospital setting.
- Familiarity with ventilators, monitoring equipment, and advanced patient care techniques.
- Knowledge of electronic medical records (EMR) systems.
