Responsibilities
The CNA's primary responsibilities include:
- Assisting residents with bathing, toileting, oral hygiene, skin care, grooming, nail care, and dressing needs.
- Feeding residents, providing bedside water, snacks, and transferring residents to and from dining areas as needed, in line with nutritional care plans.
- Responding promptly to resident call lights and requests for assistance per facility policy.
- Maintaining resident rooms by making beds, changing linens, cleaning bedside tables, and organizing personal belongings.
- Observing and reporting any changes in residents’ appetite, skin condition, or behavior that are out of the ordinary, following facility policy.
- Offering emotional support and actively listening to residents to help develop trust and independence.
- Maintaining confidentiality and respecting residents' rights and privacy at all times.
- Documenting medical information such as vitals and assistance provided in accordance with facility policy.
- Adhering to safety, infection control measures, and maintaining a clean work environment.

Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications/Requirements:
- High school diploma or GED (or working under a student permit)
- Certification by the Indiana State Department of Health (ISDH) as a CNA in good standing. CNAs from other states may work for 120 days while awaiting Indiana certification. Graduating CNA students may also work for 120 days while awaiting certification.
- Basic computer skills, including familiarity with programs like Excel, Word, etc.
- Understanding of safe and effective nursing practices within Indiana.
- Interpersonal skills including:
- Assisting licensed nurses with procedures within the scope of practice for nurse aides
- Following written and verbal instructions, working independently, and making decisions when appropriate
- Dealing tactfully with residents, families, visitors, and staff
- Working harmoniously with professional and non-professional personnel
- Prioritizing tasks responsibly
- Maintaining confidentiality and complying with HIPAA
- Patience, cheerfulness, enthusiasm, and maturity in resident care
- Adhering to professional ethics
- Relaying resident condition information accurately to staff
