Job summary

Advanced Health Care of Salem in Virginia seeks a compassionate Certified Nursing Assistant to provide direct care and support to residents. You will assist with activities of daily living, help residents maintain independence, monitor comfort, and promote safety and dignity in a geriatric setting.

This part-time/PRN role covers weekends and nights with on-call and all shifts. You will document care, assist with meals, transfers, hygiene, and participate in training to maintain CNA verification

Qualifications

  • Current Virginia CNA certification or eligibility to transfer

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct care including bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, and feeding.

  • Assist with admissions, transfers, and discharges, orienting new residents.
  • Support social activities and escort residents to group events.
  • Maintain clean living environments and follow infection control standards.
  • Assist with dining services and recording food and fluid intake.
  • Document care and observations in facility records.

Description

As a CNA you will play a vital role in providing direct care and support to our residents, assisting with activities of daily living, promoting their independence and ensuring their comfort and well-being.

Schedule:

Part-Time, PRN, Weekends, Weekdays, NOC, On-Call, All Shifts

Primary Responsibilities and Duties:
  • Provide direct care to residents under the supervision of licensed nursing staff, including assistance with bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, and feeding.
  • Assist residents with mobility and transfers, using proper lifting and position techniques to ensure their safety and comfort.
  • Monitor residents’ vital signs, intake and output, and report any changes or concerns to the nursing team.
  • Assist with resident admission, transfers, and discharges, including orienting new residents to their surroundings and helping them settle into their rooms.
  • Support residents' social and recreational activities by engaging them in meaningful interactions, escorting them to group activities and providing companionship.
  • Maintain a clean and organized living environment for residents, including making beds, tidying rooms, and ensuring cleanliness and infection control standards are met.
  • Assist with resident dining services, including meal set-up, feeding assistance, and recording food and fluid intake as directed.
  • Document care provided and resident observations accurately and timely in accordance with facility policies and regulatory requirements.
  • Participate in educational opportunities and training programs to maintain CNA verification and enhance skills and knowledge in geriatric care.
  • Assist new CNA team members with training and getting actuated with policies, procedures and the layout of the facility.
  • Participate in team meetings and contribute to resident care planning and goal setting.
  • Contribute to a positive and supportive work environment by demonstrating professionalism, teamwork, and effective communication skills.
  • Perform all other duties assigned.
Requirements
Job Qualifications:
  • Current certification as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) or State Tested Nursing Assistant (STNA) in the state you work.
  • CPR certification preferred.
  • Prior experience in a skilled nursing facility or similar medical setting preferred.
  • Ability to build rapport with residents through a compassionate and caring demeanor.
  • Commitment to providing high-quality, resident-centered care with empathy and compassion.
  • Strong clinical skills in assessment, treatment planning and intervention implementation.
Physical Requirements:
  • Work performed in a medical setting due to the need to care for residents in person.
  • Must be able to sit, stand, bend, reach, talk, hear, stoop, kneel, crouch, stretch, and twist.
  • Stamina to stand and move about the facility to perform frequent rounds and respond to emergent situations as needed.
  • Emotional resilience and ability to cope with the physical and emotional demands of working with residents who may have complex healthcare needs.
  • Capability to lift and transfer residents safely, with proper body mechanics and assistance as needed.
  • Required vision includes close, vision, distance, peripheral, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Maintain regular attendance and timeliness as set forth within the work schedule designated by the department supervisor/manager.
  • The job requires accepting criticism and dealing calmly and effectively with high-stress situations.
  • The ability to use your abdominal and lower back muscles to support part of the body repeatedly or continuously over time without "giving out" or fatiguing.
  • The ability to keep your hand and arm steady while moving your arm or while holding your arm and hand in one position.
  • The ability to exert maximum muscle force to lift, push, pull, or carry objects.
