Job summary

The Michael J. Fitzmaurice South Dakota Veterans Home in Hot Springs is hiring a Certified Nurse Assistant to provide daily resident care and engage residents in household activities.

You will support licensed staff and help maintain a safe, respectful living environment for South Dakota veterans. Eligible applicants must obtain SD CNA certification within four months, be able to lift 50 pounds, and pass background and drug screening.

Salary: $19.33 to $21.00 per hour, depending on experience; plus $5.00 per hour shift pay for night shift, $1.00 per hour shift pay for pm shift, plus $1.50 per hour weekend pay.

A Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA) is an important and valuable member to the South Dakota Veterans Home by "taking care of America's heroes" by assisting with day to day resident care and engaging the residents in various household activities / events.

This role performs basic resident care, assists with day to day resident and household activities, and assists licensed health care personnel in the provision of routine medical care in a household-type environment at the South Dakota State Veterans Home. Physical activities may include squatting, kneeling, bending, twisting, lifting, and more.

Shift differential is provided for evening, night, and weekend shifts.

Licenses And Certifications

• Must possess or be able to obtain a South Dakota Certified Nurse Aide certification within four months of hire date.

Knowledge Of

• English grammar, spelling, and punctuation;
• arithmetic sufficient to add, subtract, multiply, and divide;
• basic human hygiene requirements;
• resident safety procedures and practices;
• procedures for documenting resident care;
• basic computer operation and software use;
• protective health measures.

Ability To

• communicate information clearly and concisely;
• count accurately and record numerical and alphabetical data;
• compare information and recognize discrepancies;
• observe, recognize, and report abnormal physical symptoms;
• assist residents with personal care and hygiene needs;
