Job summary

Ciena Healthcare in Michigan seeks a Certified Nursing Assistant to provide direct resident care under supervision, assisting with bathing, grooming, feeding, and mobility while upholding safety and infection control.

Qualifications

• CNA certification in good standing or completion of approved state CNA program and competency exam within 120 days of employment.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct resident care, including bathing, grooming, dressing, toileting, continence care, oral hygiene and feeding.
• Measure and record vital signs, weight, and intake/output as directed.
• Assist residents with mobility, transfers, and positioning using proper body mechanics and lift devices.
• Respond to call lights promptly and report observations to licensed staff.
• Support residents’ independence and dignity while ensuring safety and comfort.
• Maintain accurate and timely documentation per facility procedures.
• Follow infection control and universal precautions at all times.
• Provide emotional support and companionship to residents.
• Maintain a clean, safe and comfortable environment.
• Provide postmortem care as needed.
• Make routine rounds on each assigned resident every two hours.
• Observe and report changes in residents’ skin; document observations.
• Adapt care approaches to residents’ behaviors and dementia-related needs.
• Contribute to resident assessments and plans of care when applicable.
• Assist with restorative nursing services to promote independence.

The Certified Nursing Assistant cares for residents under the direction and supervision of a registered nurse or a licensed practical/vocational nurse. This role assists residents with activities of daily living (ADLs), ensures a safe and comfortable environment, and supports licensed nursing staff in delivering individualized care in accordance with regulatory requirements and facility policies.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Provide direct resident care, including assistance with bathing, grooming, dressing, toileting, incontinent care as applicable, oral hygiene and feeding.
• Measure and record vital signs, weight, percentage of meal consumed intake/output as directed.
• Assist residents with mobility, transfers, and position using proper body mechanics and lift equipment as applicable.
• Respond promptly to call lights, resident needs, and changes in condition; report observations to licensed nursing staff.
• Support residents’ independence and dignity, while ensuring safety and comfort
• Maintain accurate and timely documentation and in accordance with facility procedures
• Follow infection control, safety, and universal precaution guidelines at all times.
• Provide emotional support and companionship to residents, fostering a positive living environment

• Provides skin care and observes residents’s skin when giving care and reports changes to licensed nurse.
• Modifies own behavior in response to residents’ behaviors.
• Is aware of developmental tasks associated with the aging process.
• Contributes to the resident's assessment (MDS/CAA's) and the plan of care.
• Provides nursing rehabilitation/restorative nursing services
  • Promote residents’ ability to adapt and adjust to living as independently as possible.
  • Assist the resident in self-care according to the resident’s abilities.
  • Assist the resident in the use of assistive devices for transferring, walking and mobility, dressing and grooming, eating and swallowing.
  • Maintains range of motion, proper turning and positioning in bed and chair.
  • Assists with bowel and bladder retraining.
  • Instructs the resident on the care and use of prosthetic and orthotic devices.
  • Incorporates training and skill practice activities, which include repetition, physical or verbal cueing, and task segmentation.
• Cares for residents with Dementia
  • Know how to respond to residents’ behaviors.
  • Allows residents to make personal choices.
  • Provides and reinforces other behavior consistent with residents’ dignity.
  • Use the resident’s families as a source of emotional support for the resident.
  • Demonstrates a basic understanding of behavior and functional symptoms associated with dementia by providing interventions and treatments to help reduce these symptoms.
  • Use modification in the presentation of activities of daily living to maintain and maximize resident functions.
  • Use effective intervention techniques to address behavioral concerns.
  • Assist with transporting residents to activities.
  • Demonstrate effective communication techniques for residents with dementia.
• Provides non-resident care including but not limited to:
  • Wash wheelchairs.
  • Cleaning soiled utility areas.
  • Cleaning shower and whirlpool rooms.
  • Cleaning kitchen areas on the nursing unit.
• Performs other duties assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education and/or Experience:

• High School Graduate/GED

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:

• Must be a Certified Nursing Assistant in good standing with the certification board or is a graduate of a state approved nursing assistant training program and passed a state approved competency examination (written and skills) within 120 days of employment; name entered into state nurse aide registry.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Computer skills are required.
• Meets all state and federal criminal background check requirements.
