POSITION SUMMARY

Under the direct supervision of a licensed nurse, provides basic daily nursing care to long-term care residents, which meets the specific needs of the residents and is within the scope of practice and in accordance with the policies and procedures of the facility

PRIMARY DUTIES

Are the essential job tasks or primary responsibilities that the individual who holds the position must be able to perform unaided or with the assistance of an accommodation. For example: “DO” (action verb) + “WHAT” (object) – “Collects vitals from patients at the being of the visit according to clinic protocol”.

  • A Provides personal care assistance to patients, including bathing, dressing, eating, toileting and transportation.
  • B Participate in the development and implementation of the patient care plan
  • C Observes and communicates changes in the patient’s condition to the charge nurse
  • D Obtains and documents patient vital signs, including temperature, blood pressure weight, respiration and pulse and report results to charge nurse
  • E Helps transfer patients to and from chairs, lift patients, raises patients in beds and turns the patients
  • F Demonstrates sensitivity to patient comfort and privacy and expresses interest in their progress
  • G Maintains a safe, comfortable and therapeutic environment for patients and family in accordance with hospital standards. (Responds promptly to call lights; replenishes the ice; assures the room is neat and tidy, etc.)
  • H Identifies when help is required in providing patient care needs and seeks it appropriately, recognizing own limitations
  • I As a member of the health team, maintains harmonious relationships with the unit and co-workers providing support and assistance to co-workers to ensure quality patient care
  • J Supports the department by attending, and constructively contributing to staff or other meetings as able/necessary
  • K Communicates clearly and tactfully with residents and their families
  • L Participates in stocking, sorting, and inventory of departmental supplies to ensure appropriate items are readily available for patient care needs
  • M Maintains confidentiality of all patient/resident/staff information
  • N Performs other related duties as requested or assigned within scope of practice
Qualifications
  • MINIMUM EDUCATION: High school diploma or equivalent
  • Post high school vocational/specialized training
  • REQUIRED CERTIFICATIONS: Valid Nevada State CNA certificate
  • Current CPR certification
