Under the direction of the Center Nurse Executive/Infection Preventionist/Designee, the Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) delivers efficient and effective nursing care while achieving positive clinical outcomes and patient/family satisfaction. The CNA performs various patient care activities and related non-professional services essential to caring for personal needs and comfort of patients. The Certified Nursing Assistant may also be responsible for specimen collection for POC testing, where scope of practice, as well as state and federal regulations permit.
Responsibilities include:
- Providing patient care to ensure safety and comfort, including assisting with Activities of Daily Living (ADL), obtaining vital signs, assisting with ambulation, positioning, applying adaptive equipment, and caring for personal belongings.
- Assisting physicians and licensed nurses with treatments and procedures, making beds, transporting patients, and preparing patients for therapy.
- Participating in care planning, performing skin treatments, applying dressings, feeding and hydrating patients, and recording intake/output.
- Maintaining infection control practices, participating in orientation, reporting changes in patient condition, and ensuring proper linen and equipment handling.
- Supporting discharge procedures, promoting a culture of safety, collaborating with departments, and participating in quality improvement activities.
- Maintaining confidentiality and working beyond scheduled shifts if needed.
Compliance:
- Adhering to legal requirements, standards, policies, including HIPAA and the Compliance and Ethics Program.
- Participating in training, reporting concerns, and cooperating with audits and investigations.
Requirements:
- Successful completion of a state-approved CNA program.
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred; must be able to read, write, speak, and understand English.
- Verification of TST, basic computer knowledge, and ongoing education to maintain certification.
Responsibilities:
- Collecting nasal specimens for POC testing, maintaining specimen integrity, and proper documentation.
- Utilizing PPE appropriately, including fit testing for N95/KN95 respirators.
- Possess CNA or related experience, current enrollment in nursing school, or relevant qualifications.
- Ability to contribute to a patient-centered environment, work rotating shifts, and follow procedures.
