Job summary

The University of Kansas Health System seeks a Patient Care Assistant to join our team at Great Bend Hospital. This unlicensed, part-time role supports RN staff, delivers compassionate care, and upholds our standards of safety and customer service.

Responsibilities include data collection, following care plans, documenting patient responses, and collaborating with the health care team. Preference given to CNA-certified candidates with high school/GED and basic terminology coursework; we offer

Position Summary / Career Interest: The Patient Care Assistant - GB is an unlicensed staff member who is accountable to and completes delegated tasks from the RN in a caring and culturally sensitive manner, with excellent customer service at all times.

Responsibilities and Essential Job Functions

  • Collects initial and on-going data as delegated in regards to the health status of the patient based on chart documentation.
  • Follows an individualized plan of care that promotes positive immediate and long-term outcomes for the patient/family and reflects the plan of the entire health care team.
  • Carries out interventions safely and in compliance with policy to facilitate achievement of expected outcomes as delegated.
  • Accurately documents patient response to intervention /therapy based upon expected outcomes.
  • Carries out delegated patient care activities and communicates with other members of the healthcare team as evidenced by positive patient outcomes.
  • For safety reasons, employees under the age of 18 are not allowed to operate or assist with the operation of power-driven hoisting apparatuses including but not limited to: floor-based vertical powered patient/resident lift devices, ceiling-mounted vertical powered patient/resident lift devices, and powered sit-to-stand patient/resident lift devices (lifting devices).
  • For safety reasons, employees under the age of 18 are not allowed to provide care to patients where this is potential exposure to radioactive substances and/or to ionizing radiations.
  • Must be able to perform the professional, clinical and or technical competencies of the assigned unit or department.

Required Education and Experience

  • Knowledge of general nursing assistant functions

Preferred Education and Experience

  • High School Graduate OR
  • General Educational Development
  • 6 months medical center experience
  • Courses in medical terminology

Required Licensure and Certification

  • Certified Nurse Aide / Assistant (CNA) - State Department for Aging and Disability Services (KS), Department of Health & Senior Services (MO) - Includes licenses for all other states
  • Basic Cardiac Life Support (BLS or BCLS) - American Heart Association (AHA) or must complete BLS certification with in the first two weeks of employment
  • Additional certification may be required for certain patient care settings or populations.

Preferred Licensure and Certification

  • Nonviolent Crisis Intervention - Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI)

Knowledge Requirements

  • 16- and 17-year-olds are eligible to be hired as a PRN.
