Job description

Introduction

Recruitment and referral incentives are available for several nursing positions, including Registered Nurses, Advanced Practice Nurses, Nurse Consultants, Nursing Supervisors, Compliance Nurses, Licensed Practical Nurses, and Certified Nursing Assistants. The incentives are paid in quarterly installments over the first year of hire and require a commitment of two consecutive years of employment with DHSS.

Summary Statement

Provide care for clients/patients/residents with acute or chronic disabilities, implementing treatment plans developed by professional staff.

Selective Requirement

Applicants must possess a valid, non‑revoked driver’s license.

Essential Functions
  • Mentor and orient newly hired staff and ensure completion of assignments.
  • Lead individual or group therapeutic processes, including reality orientation, sensory stimulation, range of motion exercises, and the application of splints or braces.
  • Participate in interdisciplinary care team meetings and provide information about the individual’s overall physical condition, abilities, and behavioral characteristics.
  • Ensure aseptic integrity of feeding, catheter, and respiratory tubes or devices while assisting individuals with personal hygiene.
  • Monitor and record vital signs (temperature, pulse, respiration, blood pressure), nutritional intake and output, and alert professional staff to significant physical or behavioral changes.
  • Provide oral and written descriptions of changes in physical or behavioral condition.
  • Observe and record unusual or hazardous behavior, conduct periodic rounds to ensure safety and well‑being of clients, patients, and residents, and provide written or oral reports of unusual incidents.
  • Escort individuals to social or recreational activities and medical appointments on or off campus.
  • Apply appropriate interventions to prevent or de‑escalate inappropriate behaviors.
Job Requirements
  • Must hold a Delaware certification as a Nursing Assistant.
Conditions of Hire
  • All new hires must attend the Statewide New Employee Orientation (SNEO) on the first day of employment.
  • Must pass a satisfactory criminal background check and pre‑employment drug testing; a 2‑Step TB/PPD test is required on the first day at the facility.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States; DHSS participates in E‑Verify and does not provide employment‑based sponsorship.
