Job summary

Summary Statement

This position involves nursing/therapeutic support work, implementing treatment plans developed by professional staff. Work typically includes caring for one or more clients/patients/residents experiencing acute or chronic disabilities, including physical, mental, and developmental disorders.

Essential Functions
  • Provides mentoring and orientation for newly hired or less experienced staff, ensuring assignments are completed.
  • Leads individual and group therapeutic processes and discussions involving reality orientation, sensory stimulation, range‑of‑motion exercises, and application of splints or braces.
  • Participates on interdisciplinary care teams, providing information about the individual's overall physical condition, abilities, and behavioral characteristics.
  • Ensures aseptic integrity of feeding, catheter, and respiratory tubes or devices while assisting individuals with personal hygiene.
  • Monitors and records temperature, pulse, respiration, blood pressure, and nutritional intake or output, alerting professional staff to significant physical or behavioral changes.
  • Provides oral or written descriptions of changes in an individual's physical or behavioral status.
  • Observes client, patient, or resident activities, recording or reporting unusual or hazardous behavior and conducting periodic rounds to ensure safety and well‑being.
  • Escorts or is responsible for individuals traveling to social, recreational, or medical appointments on or off campus.
  • Applies appropriate interventions to prevent or de‑escalate inappropriate behaviors.
Job Requirements
  • Possession of a Delaware certification as a Nursing Assistant.
  • Demonstrated competence through education, training, or experience in the responsibilities listed above.
Additional Posting Information

This is a casual/seasonal position. It is non‑pension eligible and does not include healthcare or other benefits.

Conditions of Hire
  • All new hires must complete Statewide New Employee Orientation (SNEO) on their first day of employment.
  • A satisfactory criminal background check is required and must be covered by the applicant (estimated cost $85.00).
  • Pre‑employment drug testing and a 2‑Step TB/PPD test are required.
  • This position is classified under an exclusive bargaining representative and is covered by a collective bargaining agreement.
  • Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Delaware participates in E‑Verify.
  • DHSS does not provide employment‑based sponsorship.
